Abstract

Pulse communications using precision timing includes detecting a pulse stream from a pulse code modulated carrier signal; transforming the pulse stream into a reshaped pulse stream; transforming the reshaped pulse stream into a counter gate stream; and recovering a data stream from the counter gate stream. The reshaped pulse stream is transformed into the counter gate stream with a digital circuit.

Claims (13)

1. A method, comprising:

detecting a pulse stream from a pulse code modulated carrier signal;

transforming the pulse stream into a reshaped pulse stream;

transforming the reshaped pulse stream into a counter gate stream; and

recovering a data stream from the counter gate stream,

characterized in that the reshaped pulse stream is transformed into the counter gate stream with a digital circuit.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pulse code modulated carrier includes a coherent light carrier.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pulse code modulated carrier includes a radio frequency carrier.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving a signal that includes the pulse code modulated carrier signal.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pulse steam is detected with a precision that is sub clock cycle with regard to the digital circuit that is transforming the reshaped pulse stream into the counter gate stream.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the pulse code modulated carrier includes a coherent light carrier.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the pulse code modulated carrier includes a radio frequency carrier.

8. The method of claim 5 , further comprising receiving a signal that includes the pulse code modulated carrier signal.
