Abstract

A backlight assembly includes: a light emitting unit having a plurality of unit LEDs formed in a matrix, each of the unit LEDs having a red LED, a green LED, and a blue LED; a plurality of bottom reflectors disposed under the respective unit LEDs; and a plurality of side reflectors disposed around the respective unit LEDs.

Claims (16)

1. A backlight assembly comprising:

a plurality of LED units, wherein each of the plurality of LED units has a plurality of LEDs, and each of the plurality of LEDs is covered with a first lens;

reflectors comprising a bottom reflector and a side reflector providing a plurality of recesses in which each of the plurality of LED units is correspondingly disposed; and

a diffusion sheet supported by the side reflector and covering the plurality of LED units,

wherein the side reflector has a contact portion contacting directly with the diffusion sheet on a top surface of the side reflector, and the contact portion has a recess having a polygonal shaped cross-section, the recess of the contact portion providing a non-contacting portion and being separated from the plurality of recesses in which each of the plurality of LED units is correspondingly disposed.

2. The backlight assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the bottom reflector is disposed under the plurality of LEDs.

3. The backlight assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the bottom reflector and the side reflector are formed in one body.

4. The backlight assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of LEDs is arranged in a square shape.

5. The backlight assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of LEDs is arranged in a line shape.

6. A display device comprising:

a backlight assembly comprising: a plurality of LED units, wherein each of the plurality of LED units has a plurality of LEDs, and each of the plurality of LEDs is covered with a first lens; reflectors comprising a bottom reflector and a side reflector providing a plurality of recesses in which each of the plurality of LED units is correspondingly disposed; and a diffusion sheet over the side reflector and covering the plurality of LED units; and

a panel receiving the light emitted from the backlight assembly,

wherein the side reflector has a contact portion contacting directly with the diffusion sheet on a top surface of the side reflector, and the contact portion has a recess having a polygonal shaped cross-section, the recess of the contact portion providing a non-contacting portion and being separated from the plurality of recesses in which each of the plurality of LED units is correspondingly disposed.

7. The display device according to claim 6 , wherein the bottom reflector and the side reflector are formed in one body.

8. The display device according to claim 6 , wherein the plurality of LEDs is arranged in a square shape.

9. The display device according to claim 6 , wherein the plurality of LEDs is arranged in a line shape.
