Abstract

An adapter block constructed to mount to more than one mounting configuration of a telecommunications panel. The adapter block including a housing constructed to slide mount to a panel, and pivot mount to a panel from either a front or a rear of the panel. The housing including flexible levers that provide a snap-fit connection to secure the adapter block relative to the panel in each of the mounting configurations. The adapter block providing access to cable terminations of the block in each of the mounting configurations.

Claims (14)

1. An adapter block and panel arrangement, comprising:

a) an adapter block having a one-piece housing including first and second parallel sides extending between first and seconds ends of the housing, the housing defines an array of openings extending from a front of the housing to a rear of the housing, the adapter block further including a plurality of fiber optic sleeve assemblies, each sleeve assembly being positioned in one of the openings defined by the housing, the adapter block also including a first flexible locking arm disposed at the first side of the housing and extending longitudinally along the first side of the housing, a flexible latch disposed at the first end of the housing, and a pivoting structure disposed at the second end of the housing; and

b) a telecommunications panel having at least one of a first block mounting configuration and a second block mounting configuration, the first mounting configuration including a closed aperture formed in the panel, the second mounting configuration including an open-ended slot formed in the panel;

c) wherein the adapter block mounts to the telecommunications panel by pivoting the adapter block into the closed aperture when the panel has the first block mounting configuration, the pivoting structure of the adapter block being engaged with one edge of the closed aperture and the flexible latch being engaged with an opposite edge of the closed aperture to secure the adapter block to the panel by a first snap-fit connection; and

d) wherein the adapter block mounts to the telecommunications panel by sliding the adapter block into the open-ended slot when the panel has the second block mounting configuration, the first flexible locking arm of the adapter block snaps into an opening defined in the panel adjacent the open-ended slot to secure the adapter block to the panel by a second snap-fit connection.

2. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the telecommunications panel has a front and a rear, and wherein the adapter block mounts to the telecommunications panel from the front of the panel by pivoting the adapter block into the closed aperture when the panel has the first block mounting configuration.

3. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the telecommunications panel has a front and a rear, and wherein the adapter block mounts to the telecommunications panel from the rear of the panel by pivoting the adapter block into the closed aperture when the panel has the first block mounting configuration.

4. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the telecommunications panel has a front and a rear, and wherein the adapter block is structured to mount to the telecommunications panel from the front of the panel, and is structured to mount to the telecommunications panel from the rear of the panel, by pivoting the adapter block into the closed aperture when the panel has the first block mounting configuration.

5. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the one-piece housing defines grooves extending along the first and second sides of the housing, the grooves being sized and shaped to receive opposing edges of the open-ended slot when the adapter block is mounted to the panel having the second block mounting configuration.

6. The arrangement of claim 5 , wherein the first flexible arm is integral with the one-piece housing.

7. The arrangement of claim 6 , further including a second flexible arm integral with the one-piece housing, wherein the first flexible arm engages the hole when the adapter block is in an inward position relative to the open-ended slot and the second flexible arm engages the hole when the adapter block is in an outward position relative to the open-ended slot.

8. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the one-piece housing includes an integral handle located at one of the first end and the second end of housing.

9. The arrangement of claim 8 , wherein the handle is positioned at an open end of the open-ended slot when the adapter block is mounted to the panel having the second block mounting configuration.

10. The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein each opening defines a longitudinal axis, the longitudinal axes being generally parallel to one another, and wherein the one-piece housing slides relative to the panel along a line of travel that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the openings when the adapter block is mounted to the panel having the second block mounting configuration.
