Abstract

A multimedia communicator is disclosed. The multimedia communicator comprises a processing unit; and a storage device coupled to the processing unit. The multimedia communicator further includes a plurality of interfaces to allow the multimedia communicator to offer a user a plurality of services. The MMC which includes a microprocessor computing system may be located in a car, for example, or within a handset similar to handsets presently utilized for cell phones. The MMC may be connected to a WiFi Internet connection, a cellular network, a satellite radio or equivalent satellite network, or to other available wireless networks. Additionally, the MMC has the potential to interface with GPS signals as desired.

Claims (17)

1. A multimedia communicator (MMC) comprising:

a processing unit;

a storage device coupled to the processing unit;

a plurality of interfaces coupled to a plurality of databases, wherein the plurality of databases offer open services, wherein user information stored on the plurality of databases is utilized by a network center via GPS, or an equivalent, to provide a link between the open services;

a hybrid multimedia communicator (MMH) that includes the network center in communication with the MMC, wherein a protocol technology includes information comprising subscription rules for WiFi and cellular providers, connectivity and cost requirements for providing all levels of quality, procedures for quality and cost optimization services, and information to determine the best WiFi and cellular providers to utilize for a specific area, further wherein the information is utilized to determine which open services should be selected to provide least cost voice and data, thereby creating intelligent roaming; and

a hybrid multimedia communicator protocol, wherein the hybrid multimedia communicator protocol determines partnerships between unique cellular providers resulting in a telephony protocol standard which is independent of individual WiFi or cellular providers.

2. The multimedia communicator of claim 1 wherein the multimedia communicator is utilized with one of a subset of the functionality of the MMC (MMCjr) client network and a radio transmitter to radio transmitter (R2R) network.

3. The multimedia communicator of claim 1 wherein the multimedia communicator is utilized with one of a multimedia communicator (MMC) client network and a radio transmitter to radio transmitter (R2R) network.

4. The multimedia communicator of claim 1 wherein the multimedia communicator utilizes customized media insertion.

5. The multimedia communicator of claim 1 wherein the multimedia communicator utilizes media inserted based on location.

6. The multimedia communicator of claim 1 wherein the multimedia communicator utilizes customized ad insertion.

7. The multimedia communicator of claim 1 wherein the multimedia communicator utilizes ads inserted based on location.

8. The multimedia communicator of claim 1 , wherein the open services comprise radio services, video services, analog services, satellite services, television services, and Internet services.

9. The multimedia communicator of claim 8 , wherein the Internet services are accessed in a WiFi area.

The multimedia communicator of claim 8 wherein the television and video services comprise any of satellite-based services, such as receiving reception from a satellite source; analog based services, such as receiving or recording an analog-based television station; digitally based services, such as the reception of digital television transmissions; and Internet based services, such as the reception of a television or video signal, or other video application, via the Internet.

The multimedia communicator of claim 8 , wherein the radio services comprise any of satellite-based services, such as receiving reception from a satellite source; analog based services, such as receiving or recording an analog radio station; digitally based services, such as the reception of digital radio transmissions; and Internet based services, such as a podcast or other type of Internet feature.

12. The multimedia communicator of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of databases are internal to the multimedia communicator.
