Abstract

A blister and package system made of a blister card and an outer package with unique interacting locking mechanisms. The blister card or strip is inserted into the outer package or sleeve and locks immediately without having to further process the outer package or the blister card or strip. The user is able to expose the blisters from the outer package by disengaging the lock. The blister card or strip includes a formable, pliable sheet material, into which one or more individual cavities or blisters are formed. The separated cavities are loaded with product and sealed with one or more layers of puncturable or tearable sheet material, such as aluminum foil. The blister card or strip contains a plastic rivet assembly that forms an interference mechanism. The rivet is trapped by an internally formed panel and stopped by a catch flap included in the outer package.

1. A packaging apparatus comprising:

an inside panel, a bottom panel, and an inside folding panel connecting a top panel to said inside panel;

an inside closing panel connected to said inside panel along a left panel;

a left folding panel connecting said bottom panel and said top panel to each other;

a bottom right panel connected to a top right panel along a first common edge;

wherein said inside panel is connected to said top right panel along a second common edge;

wherein said inside closing panel, said inside panel, said inside folding panel, said top panel, said left folding panel and said bottom panel, when folded, form a sleeve having an opening, said sleeve having a substantially rectangular cross-section;

wherein said inside panel comprises a rectangular cut-out on an edge directly opposite said second common edge;

wherein said sleeve is adapted to receive an insert slidable therein along a sliding direction normal to said rectangular cross-section; and

wherein said rectangular cutout forms a lip on said inside panel to receive a locking member on said insert when said insert is positioned within said sleeve.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said locking member is adapted to engage said lip in a first locked position.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , further comprising a right folding panel connecting a top closing panel to said bottom panel.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein each of said top right panel and said bottom right panel form a latch adapted to prevent the insert from sliding out of contact with said sleeve.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a button portion provided in said bottom panel and adapted to release said locking member upon application of a force thereto.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said inside closing panel is coupled to an interior surface of said top panel.

7. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein said top closing panel is coupled to an exterior surface of said top panel.

8. The apparatus of claim 3 , further comprising a top printing panel connected to said top closing panel along a third common edge.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a top rear panel connected to said top panel at a fourth common edge.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , further comprising a bottom rear panel connected to said bottom panel at a fifth common edge.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein said bottom rear panel is coupled to said top rear panel to form a back wall of said sleeve.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said insert is at least one blister package.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein said inside closing panel, said inside panel, said inside folding panel, said top panel, said left folding panel and said bottom panel are folded along edges.

14. A child-resistant packaging apparatus comprising:

an inside panel, a bottom panel, and an inside folding panel connecting a top panel to said inside panel;

an inside closing panel connected to said inside panel along a left panel;

a left folding panel connecting said bottom panel and said top panel to each other;

a bottom right panel connected to a top right panel along a first common edge;

a right folding panel connecting a top closing panel to said bottom panel;

a top printing panel connected to said top closing panel along a second common edge;

a top rear panel connected to said top panel at a third common edge; and

a bottom rear panel connected to said bottom panel at a fourth common edge;

wherein said inside panel is connected to said top right panel along a fifth common edge;

wherein said inside closing panel, said inside panel, said inside folding panel, said top panel, said left folding panel and said bottom panel, when folded, form a sleeve having an opening, said sleeve having a substantially rectangular cross-section;

wherein said inside panel comprises a rectangular cut-out on an edge directly opposite said fifth common edge;

wherein said sleeve is adapted to receive an insert slidable therein along a sliding direction normal to said rectangular cross-section; and

wherein said rectangular cutout forms a lip on the inside panel to receive a locking member on said insert when said insert is positioned within said sleeve.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein said locking member is adapted to engage said lip in a first locked position.

16. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein each of said top right panel and said bottom right panel form a latch adapted to prevent said insert from sliding out of contact with said sleeve.

17. The apparatus of claim 14 , further comprising a button portion provided in said bottom panel and adapted to release said locking member upon application of a force thereto.

18. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein said inside closing panel is coupled to an interior surface of said top panel.

19. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein said top closing panel is coupled to an exterior surface of said top panel.

20. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein said bottom rear panel is coupled to said top rear panel to form a back wall of said sleeve.

21. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein said insert is at least one blister package.
