Abstract

A position associated with a synthetic spread order may be managed where a status of a synthetic spread order is identified as legged. The synthetic spread order may have at least one child hedge order pending at an electronic exchange and in response, a bracket order is submitted to an electronic exchange for the tradeable object associated with a filled leg of the synthetic spread. In response to execution of the bracket order, the child hedge order may be cancelled.

Claims (30)

1. A method for managing a position associated with a synthetic spread order, comprising:

identifying a status of a synthetic spread order as legged via a trading device, the synthetic spread order having a filled leg and unfilled leg including at least one child hedge order pending execution at an electronic exchange;

submitting at least one bracket order to the electronic exchange for a tradeable object associated with the filled leg of the synthetic spread in response to identifying the status via the trading device; and

in response to execution of the at least one bracket order, cancelling the at least one child hedge order.

2. The method of claim 1 where the at least one bracket order comprises at least one of a cover order and an order-cancels-order.

3. The method of claim 1 where the at least one bracket order comprises a price determined according to a position associated with the filled leg of the synthetic spread.

4. The method of claim 1 where the at least one bracket order comprises a price determined according to an open position associated with the filled leg of the synthetic spread.

5. The method of claim 4 where the price is further determined according to a user selection.

6. The method of claim 1 where identifying the status and submitting the at least one bracket order are performed according to a defined parent-child relationship for the synthetic spread order.

7. The method of claim 1 where the at least one bracket order is submitted after a predetermined amount of time after identifying the status of the synthetic spread order as legged.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

monitoring an inside market corresponding to a market for the at least one child hedge order, where the at least one bracket order is submitted in response to determining that the market has moved a predetermined amount after identifying the status of the synthetic spread order as legged.

9. A non-transitory computer readable medium having instructions stored thereon which when executed by a processor cause the processor to carry out acts comprising:

identifying a status of a synthetic spread order as legged via a trading device, the synthetic spread order having a filled leg and unfilled leg including at least one child hedge order pending execution at an electronic exchange;

submitting at least one bracket order to the electronic exchange for a tradeable object associated with the filled leg of the synthetic spread in response to identifying the status via the trading device; and

in response to execution of the at least one bracket order, cancelling the at least one child hedge order.

10. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 where the at least one bracket order comprises at least one of a cover order and an order-cancels-order.

11. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 where the at least one bracket order comprises a price determined according to a position associated with the filled leg of the synthetic spread.

12. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 where the at least one bracket order comprises a price determined according to an open position associated with the filled leg of the synthetic spread.

13. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 where the price is further determined according to a user selection.

14. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 where identifying the status and submitting the at least one bracket order are performed according to a defined parent-child relationship for the synthetic spread order.

15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 where the at least one bracket order is submitted after a predetermined amount of time after identifying the status of the synthetic spread order as legged.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 9 where the acts further comprise:

monitoring an inside market corresponding to a market for the at least one child hedge order, where the at least one bracket order is submitted in response to determining that the market has moved a predetermined amount after identifying the status of the synthetic spread order as legged.

17. A trading device, comprising:

a synthetic spread manager configured to identify a status of a synthetic spread order as legged, the synthetic spread order having a filled leg and unfilled leg including at least one child hedge order pending execution at an electronic exchange; and

an order router configured to submit at least one bracket order to the electronic exchange for a tradeable object associated with the filled leg of the synthetic spread in response to identifying the status via the trading device, where in response to execution of the at least one bracket order, the order router cancels the at least one child hedge order.

18. The trading device of claim 17 where the at least one bracket order comprises a price determined according to a position associated with the filled leg of the synthetic spread.

19. The trading device of claim 17 where the at least one bracket order comprises a price determined according to an open position associated with the filled leg of the synthetic spread.

20. The trading device of claim 17 where the at least one bracket order is submitted after a predetermined amount of time after identifying the status of the synthetic spread order as legged.
