Abstract

Detailed is a cleaner apparatus for a submerged surface including a body and at least one liquid inlet at the base of the body, characterized in that it includes at least one accelerating protuberance extending toward the submerged surface while maintaining a height of liquid, and extending, with respect of a forward travel direction of the apparatus, in front of an adjacent liquid inlet while maintaining the passage cross section of the liquid inlet.

Claims (10)

1. A swimming pool cleaner comprising:

a. a body comprising an outlet and a base defining an inlet having a cross-section, the base located a first distance above a surface to be cleaned when the body is upright;

b. a pumping device configured to cause water to flow from the inlet to the outlet;

c. means for moving the body in a forward direction; and

d. a protuberance (i) protruding downwardly a second distance from the base when the body is upright, the second distance being less than half of the first distance, and (ii) configured (A) so as not to reduce the cross-section of the inlet and (B) to create a zone of turbulence at least when the body is moving in the forward direction.

2. A swimming pool cleaner according to claim 1 in which the protuberance comprises a rigid rib.

3. A swimming pool cleaner according to claim 2 in which the rigid rib has generally triangular cross-section.

4. A swimming pool cleaner according to claim 2 in which the inlet has a peripheral edge portion to the front thereof when the body is moving in the forward direction and the rigid rib extends at least substantially parallel to the front peripheral edge portion.

5. A swimming pool cleaner according to claim 2 in which the inlet has a peripheral edge portion to the front thereof when the body is moving in the forward direction and the rigid rib forms the front peripheral edge portion.

6. A swimming pool cleaner according to claim 1 further comprising a filtering device positioned between the inlet and the outlet so as to filter water flowing therethrough.
