Abstract

The communication system can be configured to generate revenue by using advertising elements or storing web pages. The communication system can allow internet access or programs to be performed. The mobile platforms can be automobiles, aircraft, boats, ships, trains or other vehicles. Advertising elements can be stored on the mobile platform.

Claims (36)

1. A method of generating revenue via an on-board entertainment system for a mobile platform, the method comprising:

electronically wirelessly receiving a program schedule on the mobile platform parked at a gate using a short range communication system, the program schedule defining placement of advertisement elements and non-advertising elements for viewing at least one program on-board the mobile platform, the non-advertising elements comprising non-live elements, and live elements;

electronically wirelessly receiving the advertising elements and non-live elements on the mobile platform while parked at a gate using the short range communication system;

storing the advertising elements and non-live elements on the mobile platform;

electronically receiving the live elements using a satellite communication system;

providing the at least one program to occupants of the mobile platform according to the program schedule including the advertising elements and the non-live elements stored on-board the mobile platform and the live elements, wherein the program provides the advertising elements stored on the mobile platform between the live elements and between the non-live elements; and

wherein the revenue is generated from at least one sponsor by providing the advertising elements to the occupants.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the schedule defines a time at which the advertising element is played and an identity of the advertisement element.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the schedule defines a relative placement for when the advertising element is played and an identity of the advertisement element.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the advertising elements are inserted before and after the non-advertising elements.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the advertising elements are loaded via a gate link operation using direct transmitters and receivers.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the advertising elements are loaded via a wireless transmission medium.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the program schedule is developed from a remote operations center.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein requests for the advertising elements to be shown are made at a terrestrial location and the advertising elements are scheduled in the program schedule, the program schedule being transmitted by the terrestrial location to the mobile platform.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

providing a report from the mobile platform of advertising elements provided on-board the mobile platform.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the revenue is received by auctioning time slots of the program through the internet, whereby advertising elements are subsequently forwarded to the mobile platform and inserted automatically for viewing.

11. A method of generating revenue via an on-board entertainment system for a mobile platform, the method comprising:

electronically wirelessly receiving advertising elements on the mobile platform while parked at a gate using a short range communication system;

storing the advertising elements on-board the mobile platform;

providing Internet browsing services to occupants of the mobile platform using web pages wirelessly received via a satellite communication system;

providing the advertising elements stored on-board the mobile platform during the browsing services; and

receiving the revenue for the provision of the advertising elements.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the advertising elements are an individual or group of mobile vehicle intranet home page(s).

13. The method of claim 12 wherein receiving compensation step includes auctioning the individual or group of mobile vehicle intranet page(s) home-page viewing space and viewing time, over a network, whereby the advertising elements are subsequently forwarded either wirelessly by gate or ground to the mobile platform and inserted automatically for viewing during the browsing services.

14. The method of claim 11 wherein the advertising elements are provided on a browser.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the step of receiving compensation includes auctioning intranet browser viewing space and viewing time, over the web, whereby the advertising elements are subsequently forwarded either wirelessly by gate or ground to the mobile platform and inserted automatically for viewing during the browsing services.

16. The method of claim 11 wherein the advertising elements include first tier URL links.

17. The method of claim 11 wherein the step of receiving compensation includes auctioning the URL links, over the web, whereby the URL links are subsequently forwarded either wirelessly by gate or ground to the mobile platform and inserted automatically for use during the browsing services.

18. A method of generating revenue for providing a browsing service on a mobile platform, the method comprising:

electronically wirelessly receiving web pages on the mobile platform while parked at a gate using the short range communication system;

storing the web pages on-board the mobile platform;

browsing the web pages; and

wherein the revenue is generated by charging for storage of the web pages on the mobile platform.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein the owners can order storage of the web page through an Internet web site and the web pages are delivered wirelessly to the mobile platform.

20. The method of claim 18 wherein advertising elements can be inserted into the web pages, the advertising elements being received wirelessly and stored on-board the mobile platform.
