Abstract

A portable device which is capable of communicating with an external device and a control method thereof are disclosed. A method for transmitting user input of a portable device includes displaying navigation interface in a navigation mode for controlling an external device which is connected with the portable device, wherein the external device displays displayable content and the navigation interface is for navigating the displayable content which includes at least one input box, displaying the at least one input box with the navigation interface as an indicator which indicates capability of mode switching from the navigation mode to a user input mode, wherein the at least one input box is extracted from the displayable content of the external device, initiating the user input mode when user input for mode switching is detected, and transmitting user input which is inputted in the displayed input box.

Claims (68)

1. A portable device comprising:

a sensor unit configured to detect user inputs;

a display unit configured to display a user interface;

a communications unit configured to communicate with an external device; and

a controller configured to perform actions including:

detecting a first event that an input box is included in a displayable content of the external device;

initiating a navigation mode of the portable device for navigating the displayable content;

displaying a copy of the input box along with a navigation interface on the display unit,

wherein the navigation interface includes a pointer controlling area for navigating the displayable content with a pointer controlled by the portable device, and

wherein the displayed copy of the input box is extracted from the displayable content of the external device and is a trigger interface which switches the portable device from the navigation mode to a user input mode;

detecting a second event that the displayed copy of the input box is selected on the trigger interface;

initiating the user input mode by displaying a virtual keyboard with the selected displayed copy of the input box; and

transmitting a user input which is inputted in the selected displayed copy of the input box,

wherein the first event and the second event are not triggered concurrently.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein, if the input box included in the displayable content of the external device includes two or more input boxes, the displaying the copy of the input box comprises:

displaying copies of the two or more input boxes and a scroll bar for scrolling through the displayed copies of the two or more input boxes.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein, if the input box included in the displayable content of the external device includes two or more input boxes, the displaying the copy of the input box comprises:

resizing the navigation interface according to a number of the two or more input boxes included in the displayable content; and

displaying copies of the two or more input boxes with the resized navigation interface.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein displaying the copy of the input box further comprises:

displaying a border line between the navigation interface and the copy of the input box,

wherein a location of the border line is adjustable for setting a displaying area of the copy of the input box.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the displayed copy of the input box is displayed in accordance with a location of the input box in the displayable content of the external device.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the second event includes a touch input on the displayed copy of the input box.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the actions comprise:

resizing the copy of the input box; and

displaying the resized copy of the input box.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein displaying the copy of the input box further comprises:

extracting a title of the input box in the displayable content of the external device; and

displaying a short cut to the copy of the input box with the extracted title.

9. The device of claim 1 , wherein displaying the copy of the input box further comprises:

determining a priority of the input box in the displayable content of the external device,

wherein the priority depends on a position of the pointer within the displayable content of the external device; and

displaying the copy of the input box corresponding to the determined priority.

10. The device of claim 9 , wherein the priority of the input box in the displayable content of the external device is determined based on a distance between the pointer and the input box in the displayable content of the external device.

11. The device of claim 1 , the actions further comprising:

terminating the user input mode upon transmitting the user input which is inputted in the displayed copy of the input box; and

switching back to the navigation mode.

12. The device of claim 1 , wherein the second event includes at least one of a touch screen input, a stylus input, a hardware button input, a gesture recognition, an image recognition and a voice recognition for the displayed input box.

13. The device of claim 1 , the actions further comprising:

displaying a terminating interface for terminating the user input mode; and

terminating the user input mode when a user input to the terminating interface is detected.

14. The device of claim 1 , wherein displaying the copy of the input box further comprises:

determining a priority of the copy of the input box,

wherein the priority depends on a position of the input box in the displayable content; and

displaying the copy of the input box corresponding to the determined priority.

15. The device of claim 14 , wherein the priority further depends on whether the input box included in the displayable content of the external device is displayed on the external device.

16. The device of claim 1 , wherein the displayed copy of the input box is extracted from a displayed area of the displayable content.

17. The device of claim 1 , wherein the displayed copy of the input box is extracted from a non-displayed area of the displayable content.

18. The device of claim 1 , wherein the virtual keyboard is displayed with the copy of the input box as an input interface.

19. The device of claim 1 , wherein, if the displayable content includes two or more input boxes, transmitting the user input further comprises:

displaying a transmitting interface for transmitting the user input,

wherein the copy of the input box is part of an input box group of a plurality of input box groups,

wherein each input box group of the plurality of input box groups includes related input boxes, and

wherein the plurality of input box groups are mutually independent; and

transmitting the user input when the user input to the transmitting interface is detected.

20. A method for transmitting a user input of a portable device having a display unit, the method comprising:

detecting, by the portable device, a first event that an input box is included in a displayable content of an external device;

initiating a navigation mode of the portable device for navigating the displayable content;

displaying a copy of the input box along with a navigation interface on the display unit,

wherein the navigation interface includes a pointer controlling area for navigating the displayable content with a pointer controlled by the portable device, and

wherein the displayed copy of the input box is extracted from the displayable content of the external device and is a trigger interface which switches the portable device from the navigation mode to a user input mode;

detecting a second event that the displayed copy of the input box is selected on the trigger interface;

initiating the user input mode by displaying a virtual keyboard with the copy of the input box; and

transmitting, to the external device, a user input which is inputted in the selected copy of the input box,

wherein the first event and the second event are not triggered concurrently.

21. The device of claim 1 , wherein, when a position of the input box included in the displayable content of the external device is changed in a displayed area of the displayable content, the displayed copy of the input box in the portable device is maintained on the display unit.

22. The device of claim 1 , wherein, when the input box included in the displayable content of the external device is moved from a displayed area to a non-displayed area of the displayable content, the displayed copy of the input box in the portable device is maintained on the display unit.
