Abstract

A printer includes a printhead die including liquid ejectors separated by walls. Each liquid ejector includes a nozzle orifice and an associated drop forming mechanism. First and second liquid feed channels, extending in opposite directions, are in fluid communication with each liquid ejector. A liquid inlet includes a plurality of first and second segments in fluid communication with the first liquid feed channels and the second liquid feed channels, respectively. The first and second segments are located on opposite sides of the nozzle orifice. For a given liquid ejector, both of the first and second segments are directly in line with the liquid ejector. An electrical lead extends from each drop forming mechanism toward an edge of the printhead die. At least one of the electrical leads is positioned between neighboring segments of at least one of the first and second segments of the liquid inlet.

Claims (29)

a structure defining a plurality of chambers, each chamber having a nozzle orifice;

a drop forming mechanism associated with each chamber;

a plurality of first liquid feed channels and second liquid feed channels, one of the plurality of first liquid feed channels and one of the plurality of second liquid feed channels being associated with a corresponding chamber of the plurality of chambers, the associated first liquid feed channel and second liquid feed channel being in fluid communication with the same corresponding chamber, the associated first liquid feed channel and second liquid feed channel extending in opposite directions from the same corresponding chamber;

a liquid inlet including a plurality of first segments and a plurality of second segments, the plurality of the first segments of the liquid inlet being in fluid communication with the first liquid feed channels, and the plurality of the second segments of the liquid inlet being in fluid communication with the second liquid feed channels, the plurality of first segments and the plurality of second segments being located on opposite sides of the nozzle orifice, wherein for a given chamber of the plurality of chambers both of the first segment of the liquid inlet and the second segment of the liquid inlet are directly in line with the chamber; and

an electrical lead extending from each drop forming mechanism toward an edge of the structure, at least one of the electrical leads being positioned between neighboring segments of the plurality of first segments of the liquid inlet.

2. The printer according to claim 1 , further comprising power circuitry including a plurality of drivers, each driver being in electrical communication with a corresponding drop forming mechanism through a corresponding electrical lead.

3. The printer according to claim 1 , wherein none of the electrical leads extend toward the plurality of second segments of the liquid inlet.

4. The printer according to claim 3 , further comprising power circuitry including a plurality of drivers, each driver being in electrical communication with a corresponding drop forming mechanism through a corresponding electrical lead, wherein each driver is located on a side of the plurality of first segments of the liquid inlet which is opposite a nozzle orifice side of the plurality of first segments of the liquid inlet.

5. The printer according to claim 1 , wherein one electrical lead from one of the drop forming mechanisms is electrically connected to another electrical lead from another of the drop forming mechanisms at a location between the nozzle orifice and one of the plurality of first segments of the liquid inlet and the plurality of second segments of the liquid inlet.

6. The printer according to claim 5 , the one electrical lead from one of the drop forming mechanisms that is electrically connected to another electrical lead from another of the drop forming mechanisms being a combined electrical lead, the combined electrical lead extending toward the edge of the structure between neighboring segments of at least one of the plurality of first segments and the plurality of second segments of the liquid inlet.

7. The printer according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of chambers are adjacent to each other.

8. The printer according to claim 1 , further comprising a post disposed in each of the first and second liquid feed channels.

9. The printer according to claim 8 , wherein the posts are symmetrically disposed about the nozzle orifice.

10. The printer according to claim 8 , wherein the posts have the same cross sectional area.

11. A printer comprising:

a printhead die including a plurality of liquid ejectors separated by a plurality of walls, each liquid ejector including a nozzle orifice and an associated drop forming mechanism;

a plurality of first liquid feed channels and second liquid feed channels, one of the plurality of first liquid feed channels and one of the plurality of second liquid feed channels being associated with a corresponding liquid ejector of the plurality of liquid ejectors, the associated first liquid feed channel and second liquid feed channel being in fluid communication with the same corresponding liquid ejector, the associated first liquid feed channel and second liquid feed channel extending in opposite directions from the same corresponding liquid ejector;

a liquid inlet including a plurality of first segments and a plurality of second segments, the plurality of the first segments of the liquid inlet being in fluid communication with the first liquid feed channels, and the plurality of the second segments of the liquid inlet being in fluid communication with the second liquid feed channels, the plurality of first segments and the plurality of second segments being located on opposite sides of the nozzle orifice, where for a given liquid ejector of the plurality of liquid ejectors both of the first segment of the liquid inlet and the second segment of the liquid inlet are directly in line with the liquid ejector; and

an electrical lead extending from each drop forming mechanism toward an edge of the printhead die, at least one of the electrical leads being positioned between neighboring segments of the plurality of first segments of the liquid inlet.

12. The printer according to claim 11 , further comprising power circuitry including a plurality of drivers, each driver being in electrical communication with a corresponding drop forming mechanism through a corresponding electrical lead.

13. The printer according to claim 11 , wherein none of the electrical leads extend toward the plurality of second segments of the liquid inlet.

14. The printer according to claim 13 , further comprising power circuitry including a plurality of drivers, each driver being in electrical communication with a corresponding drop forming mechanism through a corresponding electrical lead, wherein each driver is located on a side of the plurality of first segments of the liquid inlet which is opposite a nozzle orifice side of the plurality of first segments of the liquid inlet.

15. The printer according to claim 11 , wherein one electrical lead from one of the drop forming mechanisms is electrically connected to another electrical lead from another of the drop forming mechanisms at a location between the nozzle orifice and one of the plurality of first segments of the liquid inlet and the plurality of second segments of the liquid inlet.
