Abstract

A digital signal coding apparatus and method for outputting a bitstream containing coded data of a digital signal of a predetermined transmission unit is disclosed. The coding apparatus includes an arithmetic coding unit for compressing, by arithmetic coding, the digital signal of the transmission unit, multiplexing information with the bitstream as an element of header information associated with the transmission unit, the information indicating whether a data indicating a context model status to be used for arithmetic decoding of the transmission unit is multiplexed or not.

Claims (12)

1. A digital signal coding apparatus for outputting a bitstream containing coded data of a digital signal of a predetermined transmission unit, comprising:

an arithmetic coding unit for compressing, by arithmetic coding, the digital signal of said transmission unit, multiplexing information with the bitstream as an element of header information associated with said transmission unit, the information indicating whether a data indicating a context model status to be used for arithmetic decoding of said transmission unit is multiplexed or not.

2. A digital signal coding apparatus for making a compression coding by dividing a digital signal into predetermined transmission units, comprising:

an arithmetic coding unit for compressing the digital signal of said transmission unit by arithmetic coding, the arithmetic coding unit comprising:

a context model determination unit for determining a context model corresponding to a type of coding data among a plurality of context models;

a binarization unit for generating a binarization sequence by converting a multilevel data of the coding data into a binarization data corresponding to a binarization rule defined based on the type of the coding data;

a probability generation unit for generating a probability of occurrence based on the context model corresponding to the binarization rule;

a coding unit for arithmetic coding the digital signal of said transmission unit based on the generated probability of occurrence; and

a transmission unit generation unit for multiplexing information into a bit stream as part of the coded data of said transmission unit, the information indicating whether a data indicating a context model status to be used for arithmetic decoding of said transmission unit is multiplexed or not.

3. A digital signal coding method for outputting a bitstream containing coded data of a digital signal of a predetermined transmission unit, comprising:

compressing, by arithmetic coding, the digital signal of said transmission unit; and

multiplexing information with the bitstream as an element of header information associated with said transmission unit, the information indicating whether a data indicating a context model status to be used for arithmetic decoding of said transmission unit is multiplexed or not.
