Tissue transfer method and apparatus
View Patent ↗A system in accordance with embodiments of the present invention includes a cannula interconnected to a collection vessel by a flexible conduit. The collection vessel can comprise an impermeable or permeable collection vessel. The collection vessel is contained within a collection container, and can feature a tapered end. An air inlet may be provided in the flexible conduit and/or in a collection canister lid.
1. A tissue transfer system, comprising:
a tissue collection canister;
a tissue collection canister lid, the tissue collection canister lid including a first port, a second port, and a third port;
a tissue collection vessel within the tissue collection canister, wherein the tissue collection vessel is impermeable, and wherein the third port of the tissue collection canister lid is in communication with an interior of the tissue collection vessel through an outlet of the tissue collection vessel;
harvest tubing, wherein a first end of the harvest tubing is interconnected to an inlet of the tissue collection vessel via the first port of the tissue collection canister lid;
a tissue collection cannula interconnected to a second end of the harvest tubing, wherein the tissue collection cannula is in communication with an interior of the tissue collection vessel via the harvest tubing, the first port of the tissue collection canister lid, and the inlet of the tissue collection vessel;
a vacuum source;
vacuum tubing, wherein via the vacuum tubing an interior of the tissue collection canister is in communication with the vacuum source, the second port of the tissue collection canister lid, and the third port of the tissue collection canister lid, wherein the second port of the tissue collection canister lid is also in communication with an interior of the tissue collection canister and an exterior of the tissue collection vessel.
2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the vacuum tubing interconnects the second and third ports of the tissue collection canister lid, and wherein the third port is in communication with the second port and the vacuum tubing via a tee fitting.
3. The system of claim 2 , wherein a volume of tubing between the third port of the collection canister lid and the vacuum source is greater than a volume of tubing between the second port of the collection canister lid and the vacuum source.
4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second port of the tissue collection canister lid is connected to a waste tube.
5. The system of claim 4 , wherein an inlet to the waste tube is located at an end of the tissue collection canister opposite the tissue collection canister lid.
6. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:
an air inlet in at least one of the harvest tubing and the tissue collection canister.
7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the tissue collection canister lid includes a first air inlet.
8. The system of claim 1 , wherein an end of the tissue collection vessel proximate to the inlet of the tissue collection vessel is tapered.
9. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:
a silicone coating on at least one of an interior of the tissue collection canister and an interior of the harvest tubing.
10. The system of claim 1 , wherein a length along a first edge of the tissue collection vessel at an end proximate to the inlet is less than one half a length along a second edge of the tissue collection at an end distal from the inlet.
11. A tissue collection device, comprising:
a tissue collection canister, including:
a first port;
a second port;
a third port;
an impermeable tissue collection vessel, wherein an interior of the tissue collection vessel is in communication with the first port of the tissue collection canister, wherein the first port of the tissue collection canister is located at a first end of the tissue collection canister, wherein the first port of the tissue collection canister is in communication with an interior of the tissue collection vessel through an inlet to the interior of the tissue collection vessel, wherein the second port of the tissue collection canister is located at the first end of the tissue collection canister, wherein the second port of the tissue collection canister is in communication with an interior of the tissue collection canister and an exterior of the tissue collection vessel, wherein the third port of the tissue collection canister is located at the first end of the tissue collection canister, wherein the third port of the tissue collection canister is in communication with the interior of the tissue collection vessel through an outlet of the tissue collection vessel, and wherein the second and third ports of the tissue collection canister are in communication with each other.
12. The device of claim 11 , wherein a first end of the tissue collection vessel is tapered in at least one of width and depth.
13. The device of claim 11 , wherein the tissue collection canister includes an air inlet.
14. The device of claim 11 , wherein the second and third ports are in communication with each other through a common vacuum line.
15. The device of claim 14 , wherein the common vacuum line is vacuum tubing.
