Abstract

A contextual computing system allows a variety of actors to interact with system components to carry out computational and communication tasks. The system is provided as a self-contained and portable solution for communications needs, employable by a number of entities such as telecommunications companies, enterprises, and system operators. The computing system is implemented using layers, with components within the layers carrying out computational and communication tasks in response to input from actors. The system allows business logic and communication to be integrated into a single solution, providing for efficient communication and remarkable ease of use in a variety of possible deployments.

Claims (15)

1. A method for provisioning content to multiple users of a contextual computing system, wherein said multiple users have a plurality of devices of different types, said method comprising:

provisioning content over multiple types of network connections to said plurality of devices of different types of said multiple users;

providing one or more catalog views of said content available in one or more data warehouses;

inputting business logic rules into a rules engine to define actions taken in response to synchronization events based on user profiles;

allowing access to certain ones of the one or more catalog views by certain ones of the plurality of devices through a web server based on said business logic rules in the rules engine; and

synchronizing the content between said one or more data warehouses and said devices based on said business logic rules.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said synchronizing the content between said data warehouses and said devices is further based on statuses of the devices and states of their connections to said networks.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising making available content and context information accessed, stored, and updated by said users on their devices via a client stub component.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising managing one or more user profiles for each of said users.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising supporting one or more domains.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising managing said devices.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing one or more operational measurements.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising managing said business logic rules, said user profiles, and said devices.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising implicit profiling of said devices.

10. The method of claim 1 further comprising managing multiple user profiles for each of said users.
