Abstract

A disposable absorbent article to be worn about the lower torso of a wearer that facilitates an easy, intuitive change is provided. The disposable absorbent article includes at least one serviceable indicium that facilitates an easy change by providing alignment of the article relative to an anatomical feature of the wearer or by externally highlighting one or more components of the article thereby indicating alignment and fit about the wearer's lower torso.

Claims (13)

1. A disposable absorbent article to be worn about the lower torso of a wearer that facilitates an easy, intuitive change, the disposable absorbent article including a body-facing surface and a garment facing surface, a first waist region with a first end edge, a second waist region with a second end edge, and a crotch region interposed therebetween; a longitudinal axis and a transverse axis; and a pair of opposing longitudinal side edges joining the first end edge and the second end edge; the disposable absorbent article comprising:

a backsheet having a body-facing surface and a garment-facing surface,

a topsheet disposed on the body facing surface of the backsheet;

a core having a shape interposed between the topsheet and backsheet;

first and second elasticized panels, wherein said first and second elasticized panels are disposed on opposite sides of the second waist region relative to the longitudinal axis of the article;

a fastening system for releasably securing the first waist region to the second waist region, wherein said fastening system comprises first and second hook type fasteners joined to said first and second elasticized panels respectively and one loop type fastener disposed in said first waist region;

at least one externally visible serviceable indicium that facilitates the process of fitting the absorbent article to the wearer by complementing at least one component of the article and indicating proper alignment of the article about the wearer's lower torso wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium has an inner contour, wherein said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium comprises a color distinguishing said at least one externally visible serviceable indicium from a region of the disposable absorbent article and wherein said externally visible serviceable indicium comprises a curvilinear shape, which continuously extends from said crotch region proximate one side edge of the article to said second waist region proximate said second end edge of the article and to said crotch region proximate the other side edge of said article, wherein at least a portion of said inner contour of said externally visible serviceable indicium is concave relative to the intersection of said longitudinal and transverse axes and wherein at least a portion of said inner contour of said externally visible serviceable indicium is convex relative to the intersection of said longitudinal and transverse axes; and

a first internally visible serviceable indicium, wherein said first internally visible serviceable indicium comprises an edge for longitudinal alignment of said first internally visible serviceable indicium with an anatomic feature of a wearer during fitting of the article to said wearer, wherein said edge is disposed in said crotch region and extends along the transverse axis of said absorbent article, and wherein said first internally visible serviceable indicium comprises a color, which distinguishes said first internally visible serviceable indicium from a region of said body facing surface of said liquid pervious topsheet, which is disposed beyond said edge of said first internally visible serviceable indicium;

wherein said first internally visible serviceable indicium is disposed beneath said body facing surface of said topsheet.

2. The disposable absorbent article of claim 1 wherein said first internally visible serviceable indicium is disposed on a layer of said core and is visible through said topsheet.

3. The disposable absorbent article of claim 2 wherein said core comprises a distribution and acquisition layer and a storage layer comprising a superabsorbent material.

4. The disposable absorbent article of claim 3 wherein said first internally visible serviceable indicium comprises at least one of a dye, and an ink.

5. The disposable absorbent article of claim 4 wherein said first internally visible serviceable indicium is disposed on said acquisition and distribution layer.
