Abstract

A joint system having a flexible spring located in a horizontal groove of a panel, the spring having an inner flexible part and being displaceable horizontally in the groove.

Claims (27)

1. A method for manufacturing floorboards, said floorboards comprising wood fibers oriented essentially in a plane, the method comprising:

cutting a first portion of a single solid unitary piece of floorboard material that is continuous without division to form a first cut in at one portion of the floorboard material, the first cut cutting only part way through the floorboard material;

cutting a second portion of the single solid unitary piece of floorboard material to form a second cut at a second portion of the floorboard material, the second cut cutting only part way through the floorboard material; and

fracturing the single solid unitary piece of floorboard material along a region connecting the first and second cuts into at least two pieces by providing a force on one of the at least two pieces and an opposing force on the other of the at least two pieces such that the fracture occurs by breaking off a piece in the plane of the wood fibers.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the floorboard material is a blank for floorboards with a mechanical locking system, said blank comprising the at least two pieces of floorboard material as a single solid unitary piece that is continuous without division before fracture, and wherein the fracturing step fractures a piece of floorboard material from the blank.

3. The method of claim 2 , the method further comprising forming a fracture line between said first and second cuts, said fracture line being formed to facilitate fracture of one of said pieces of floorboard material in the plane of the wood fibers.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the blank has a side edge that comprises edges of the at least two pieces of floorboard material, and a top surface, the top surface defining a horizontal plane, wherein the wood fibers are oriented essentially parallel to the horizontal plane.

5. The method of claim 4 , the method further comprising:

fracturing a piece of floorboard material from the blank along the fracture line to form a fracture surface on the piece of floorboard material at the fracture line, the fracture surface being essentially parallel to the horizontal plane.

6. The method of claim 3 , wherein the blank comprises HDF material.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the region connecting the first and second cuts forms part of a mechanical locking system of at least one of the floorboards.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cutting steps are performed with a saw.

9. A method for manufacturing floorboards, the method comprising:

orienting wood fibers essentially in a plane of a single solid unitary piece of floorboard material that is continuous without division;

cutting a first portion the single solid unitary piece of floorboard material to form a first cut in at one portion of the floorboard material, the first cut cutting only part way through the floorboard material;

cutting a second portion of the single solid unitary piece of floorboard material to form a second cut at a second portion of the floorboard material, the second cut cutting only part way through the floorboard material; and

fracturing the single solid unitary piece of floorboard material along a region connecting the first and second cuts into at least two pieces such that the fracture occurs in the plane of the wood fibers.

10. The method of claim 9 , the fracturing step comprising:

providing a force on one of the at least two pieces and an opposing force on the other of the at least two pieces such that the fracture occurs by breaking off a piece in the plane of the wood fibers.

The method of claim 9 , wherein the floorboard material is a blank for floorboards with a mechanical locking system, said blank comprising the at least two pieces of floorboard material as a single solid unitary piece that is continuous without division before fracture, and wherein the fracturing step fractures a piece of floorboard material from the blank.

12. The method of claim 11 , the method further comprising forming a fracture line between said first and second cuts, said fracture line being formed to facilitate fracture of one of said pieces of floorboard material in the plane of the wood fibers.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the blank has a side edge that comprises edges of the at least two pieces of floorboard material, and a top surface, the top surface defining a horizontal plane, wherein the wood fibers are oriented essentially parallel to the horizontal plane.

14. The method of claim 13 , the method further comprising:

fracturing a piece of floorboard material from the blank along the fracture line to form a fracture surface on the piece of floorboard material at the fracture line, the fracture surface being essentially parallel to the horizontal plane.

15. The method of claim 12 , wherein the blank comprises HDF material.

16. The method of claim 9 , wherein the region connecting the first and second cuts forms part of a mechanical locking system of at least one of the floorboards.

17. The method of claim 9 , wherein the cutting steps are performed with a saw.
