Abstract

A method and apparatus for efficiently allocating resources to a terminal in a random access system are provided. A method for transmitting an abnormal power down report from a Machine to Machine (M2M) device in a wireless communication system may include transmitting a Bandwidth Request (BR) preamble sequence and a first message to a base station, receiving an uplink resource allocation from the base station, transmitting the abnormal power down report using the uplink resource allocation, and starting a first timer for confirmation of the transmitted abnormal power down report, wherein the first message may include an identifier of the M2M device and a BR index for transmitting an abnormal power down report.

Claims (30)

1. A method for transmitting an abnormal power down report by a Machine to Machine (M2M) device in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting the abnormal power down report to a base station,

wherein the abnormal power down report includes offset information for an identifier of the M2M device that transmits the abnormal power down report, and

wherein when the identifier is shared with a plurality of M2M devices, the identifier of the M2M device is valid within a time interval indicated by the offset information and the offset information is unique for each of the plurality of M2M devices.

2. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

starting a first timer to wait for a confirmation signal of the abnormal power down report.

3. The method according to claim 2 , further comprising:

receiving the confirmation signal from the base station in response to the abnormal power down report; and

stopping the first timer in response to the receiving of the confirmation signal.

4. The method according to claim 2 , further comprising retransmitting the abnormal power down report to the base station when the M2M device does not receive the confirmation signal in response to the abnormal power down report from the base station before the first timer expires.

5. The method according to claim 2 , further comprising, when the M2M device does not receive the confirmation signal in response to the abnormal power down report from the base station before the first timer expires:

transmitting a Bandwidth Request (BR) preamble sequence and a first message to a base station; and

starting a second timer to wait for confirmation of the first message,

wherein the first message includes an identifier of the M2M device and a BR index indicating the abnormal power down report.

6. The method according to claim 5 , further comprising:

receiving acknowledgement (ACK) information from the base station in response to the first message; and

stopping the second timer in response to the receiving of the ACK information.

7. The method according to claim 6 , further comprising retransmitting the BR preamble sequence and the first message to the base station when the M2M device does not receive the ACK information from the base station before the second timer expires.

8. A Machine to Machine (M2M) device for transmitting an abnormal power down report in a wireless communication system, the M2M device comprising:

a radio frequency (RF) unit; and

a processor configured to transmit the abnormal power down report via the RF unit to a base station,

wherein the abnormal power down report includes offset information for an identifier of the M2M device that transmits the abnormal power down report, and

wherein when the identifier is shared with a plurality of M2M devices, the identifier of the M2M device is valid within a time interval indicated by the offset information and the offset information is unique for each of the plurality of M2M devices.

9. The M2M device according to claim 8 , wherein the processor is further configured to start a first timer to wait for a confirmation signal of the abnormal power down report.

10. The M2M device according to claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive the confirmation signal from the base station in response to the abnormal power down report, and stop the first timer in response to the receiving of the confirmation signal.

11. The M2M device according to claim 9 , wherein the processor is further configured to retransmit the abnormal power down report to the base station when the M2M device does not receive the confirmation signal in response to the abnormal power down report from the base station before the first timer expires.

12. The M2M device according to claim 9 , wherein when the M2M device does not receive the confirmation signal in response to the abnormal power down report from the base station before the first timer expires, the processor is further configured to transmit a Bandwidth Request (BR) preamble sequence and a first message to a base station, and start a second timer to wait for confirmation of the first message,

wherein the first message includes an identifier of the M2M device and a BR index indicating the abnormal power down report.

13. The M2M device according to claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive acknowledgement (ACK) information from the base station in response to the first message, and stop the second timer in response to the receiving of the ACK information.

14. The M2M device according to claim 13 , wherein the processor is further configured to retransmit the BR preamble sequence and the first message to the base station when the M2M device does not receive the ACK information from the base station before the second timer expires.
