Packaging system and method
A packaging system and method for securing a product within a shipping container includes providing a shipping container appropriately sized for the product, attaching at least a first shock absorption member to the shipping container for serving as a locator for the product and for positioning the product on the shipping container. Attaching at least a second shock absorption member to the shipping container for, together with the at least a first shock absorption member, securing the product on the shipping container. The shipping container is closed about the product, which is itself suspended by the at least a first shock absorption member and the at least a second shock absorption member.
1. A packaging system for packing and shipping an associated product, comprising:
a shipping container having a plurality of side walls;
at least a first shock absorption member attached to said shipping container for serving as a locator for the associated product and for positioning the associated product on said shipping container, wherein said first shock absorption member is spaced inwardly from said plurality of side walls;
at least a second shock absorption member attached to said shipping container for, together with said at least a first shock absorption member, securing the associated product on said shipping container, wherein said second shock absorption member is spaced inwardly from said plurality of side walls; the associated product suspended by said at least a first shock absorption member and said at least a second shock absorption member within said shipping container when said shipping container is folded and closed about the associated product for shipping; wherein each of said at least a first shock absorption member and said at least a second shock absorption member includes:
a base wall; and
a pair of clamping walls extending from said base wall, wherein said clamping walls are tapered toward each other forming a slot which is wider adjacent said base wall than adjacent distal ends of said clamping walls; wherein said slot securely receives the associated product and wherein said clamping walls comprise distal ends which converge toward each other to directly secure said associated product via said distal ends; and
at least one pad attached to said shipping container and interposed between said first and second shock absorption members.
2. The package system of claim 1 wherein said at least a first shock absorption member and said at least a second shock absorption member are each attached to said shipping container by at least one adhesive strip.
3. The package system of claim 2 wherein said at least one adhesive strip includes a first adhesive strip disposed on a first side of each of said at least a first shock absorption member and said at least a second shock absorption member and a second adhesive strip disposed on a second, opposite side of each of said at least a first shock absorption member and said at least a second shock absorption member.
4. The package system of claim 1 wherein a first wall of said pair of clamping walls defines a first side that is secured to said shipping container by an adhesive strip and a second wall of said pair of clamping walls defines a second side that is secured to said shipping container by a second adhesive strip.
5. The package system of claim 4 wherein said shipping container is folded into a box with a first section adhered to said first side of said pair of clamping walls and a second section adhered to said second side of said pair of clamping walls.
6. The packaging system of claim 1 , wherein said at least one pad is formed of foam.
7. The packaging system of claim 6 , wherein said at least one pad comprises two pads attached to opposite sides of said shipping container.
8. A packaging system for packing and shipping an associated product, comprising:
a shipping container having side walls;
a first shock absorption member attached to said shipping container inwardly of said side walls for serving as a locator for the associated product and for positioning the associated product on said shipping container;
a second shock absorption member attached to said shipping container inwardly of said side walls for, together with said first shock absorption member, securing the associated product on said shipping container, the associated product suspended by said first shock absorption member and said second shock absorption member within said shipping container when said shipping container is folded and closed about the associated product for shipping; wherein each of said first shock absorption member and said second shock absorption member includes:
a base wall;
first and second clamping walls extending from said base wall, wherein said first and second clamping walls are tapered toward each other forming a slot which is wider adjacent said base wall than adjacent distal ends of said clamping walls; wherein said slot securely receives the associated product and wherein said first and second clamping walls comprise distal ends which converge toward each other to directly secure said associated product via said distal ends; and
a first adhesive strip formed on said first clamping wall and a second adhesive strip formed on second clamping wall for securing said clamping walls to upper and lower walls of said shipping container, respectively;
and a pad interposed between said first and second shock absorption members.
