Abstract

We have disclosed methods of determining workout plans and sessions for an individual. The methods may include receiving input from the individual, determining a first type of workout based on the input, determining a plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout for a workout plan, determining a second type of workout that is different than the first type of workout based on input from the individual, determining a plurality of workout sessions for the second type of workout for the workout plan, and storing data describing the workout plan, including data describing the workout sessions for the for the first and second types of workouts, in a memory accessible by a server computer system.

Claims (46)

1. A method of determining a workout plan for an individual, the method comprising:

receiving an input from the individual;

determining a first type of workout based on the input from the individual;

determining a plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout for the workout plan;

determining a second type of workout that is different than the first type of workout based on the input from the individual;

determining a plurality of workout sessions for the second type of workout for the workout plan; and

storing data describing the workout plan in a memory accessible by a server computer system, wherein the data describing the workout plan includes data describing the plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout and data describing the plurality of workout sessions for the second type.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising storing the input in the memory accessible by the server computer system.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the input comprises personal data of the individual.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the personal data comprises one of the age, the gender, and the weight of the individual.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the input comprises performance data of the individual.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the performance data comprises data associated with the individual's performance during a previously completed workout session.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first type of workout comprises cardiovascular workouts.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the cardiovascular workouts comprise running workouts.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first type of workout comprises strength training workouts.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the strength training workouts comprise weightlifting workouts.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first type of workout comprises cardiovascular workouts and wherein the second type of workout comprises strength training workouts.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout is carried out by the server computer system.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout comprises assigning days for the plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout comprises assigning durations for the plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout comprises assigning intensities for the plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein assigning the intensities comprises defining one of target speeds, paces, heart rates, resistance levels, or numbers of repetitions.

17. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting one of the plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout or one of the plurality of workout sessions for the second type of workout from the server computer system to a portable performance monitoring device of the individual.

18. The method of claim 1 , further comprising instructing the individual to engage in the workout plan by prompting the individual to engage in one of the plurality of workout sessions for the first type of workout or one of the plurality of workout sessions for the second type of workout.

19. A method of determining a workout session for an individual, the method comprising:

receiving an input from the individual;

determining a first workout section for the workout session based on the input from the individual;

determining a second workout section for the workout session that is different than the first workout section based on the input from the individual;

storing data describing the workout session in a memory accessible by a server computer system, wherein the data describing the workout session includes data describing the first workout section and the second workout section; and

instructing the individual to engage in the workout session.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising storing the input in the memory accessible by the server computer system.

21. The method of claim 19 , wherein the input comprises personal data of the individual.

22. The method of claim 21 , wherein the personal data comprises one of the age, gender, or weight of the individual.

23. The method of claim 19 , wherein the input comprises performance data of the individual.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein the performance data comprises data associated with the individual's performance during a previously completed workout session.

25. The method of claim 19 , wherein determining the first workout section comprises determining a first workout section type.

26. The method of claim 25 , wherein the first workout section type comprises a cardiovascular workout.

27. The method of claim 25 , wherein the first workout section type comprises a strength training workout.

28. The method of claim 25 , wherein the second workout section comprises a second workout section type, wherein the first workout section type comprises a cardiovascular workout, and wherein the second workout section type comprises a strength training workout.

29. The method of claim 19 , wherein determining the first workout section comprises determining a duration for the first workout section.

30. The method of claim 19 , wherein determining the first workout section comprises determining an intensity for the first workout section.

31. The method of claim 30 , wherein determining the intensity for the first workout section comprises determining one of a target speed, pace, heart rate, resistance level, or number of repetitions.

32. The method of claim 19 , wherein determining the first workout section and determining the second workout section are carried out by the server computer system.

33. The method of claim 19 , further comprising assigning a day for the workout session.

34. The method of claim 19 , further comprising transmitting the workout session from the server computer system to a portable performance monitoring device of the individual.

35. The method of claim 19 , wherein instructing the individual to engage in the workout session comprises providing the individual with a prompt to begin the first workout section.
