Abstract

A system for charging pressurized aerosol cans with liquid is provided combining a disposable syringe and filling machine. The syringe is loaded with a liquid, then placed in the filling machine and connected to the inlet of the pressurized container. The filling machine is activated and an electric motor or a hydraulic piston exerts force on the syringe to inject the liquid into the aerosol container.

Claims (16)

1. A method of preparing an aerosol spray container at a point of sale retail location comprising,

a) loading a blank can into a can filling machine, where the blank can comprises an internal can volume containing an initial liquid formulation and pre-pressurized with a propellant, the blank can having an adaptor connection;

b) selecting an additive liquid;

c) withdrawing the additive liquid from a container into a syringe comprising a barrel, a distal end and a proximal end and configured to fit inside a rigid cup of a filling machine, where the syringe has a plunger having an attached piston configured to slidably and sealably fit within the barrel such that proximal sliding movement of the plunger and piston withdraws the additive liquid from the container into the barrel;

d) transferring the syringe with the withdrawn additive liquid into the rigid cup positioned in the filling machine;

e) connecting an adaptor to the adaptor connection to establish a fluid communication between the additive liquid in the syringe and the internal can volume; and

f) injecting the additive liquid into the internal can volume using a drive mechanism located on the can filling machine.

2. A method of preparing a finished spray paint container product at a point of sale retail location comprising,

a) loading a blank can into a can filling machine, where the blank can comprises an internal can volume containing an initial paint formation and pre-pressurized with a propellant, where the blank can has an adaptor connection;

b) selecting a paint formulation;

c) withdrawing the paint formulation from a container into a syringe comprising a barrel, a distal end and a proximal end and configured to fit inside a rigid cup of a filling machine, where the syringe has a plunger having an attached piston configured to slidably and sealably fit within the barrel such that proximal sliding movement of the plunger and piston withdraws the paint formulation from the container into the barrel;

d) transferring the syringe with the withdrawn paint formulation into the rigid cup positioned in the filling machine;

e) connecting an adaptor to the adaptor connection to establish a fluid communication between the paint formulation in the syringe and the internal can volume; and

f) injecting the paint formulation into the internal can volume using a drive mechanism located on the can filling machine to prepare the finish spray paint container product.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising using a recipe to select the paint formulation, where the recipe is based on a desired final spray paint color and using the recipe to prepare the container of the paint formulation.

4. The method of claim 2 further characterized in that using the drive mechanism comprises operating a hand crank.
