Substrate for soil improvement having a water-storing property, method for producing same, and use thereof
The invention relates to a method for producing a lignin-based substrate for soil improvement having a water-storing property, characterized by the following steps: providing lignin, oxidizing the lignin in either an aqueous alkaline suspension or a pH-neutral aqueous suspension, the pH-neutral aqueous suspension being converted into an alkaline substance after the lignin has been oxidized, cross-linking the lignin in an aqueous alkaline medium using multifunctional compounds, and neutralizing, drying, and comminuting the lignin.

Substrate for soil improvement with water-storing property comprised of lignin, characterized in that the lignin is modified at the aromatic structures as well as at the aliphatic structures by introduction of oxygen-functional groups, the oxygen-functional groups introduced by oxidation of the lignin with hydrogen peroxide or a Fenton system, the latter comprised of hydrogen peroxide and an Fe(II) salt, or a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and an Mn(II) salt, and in that the lignin is crosslinked by bifunctional crosslinking substances at the aliphatic and phenolic hydroxy groups introduced by oxidation.
2. Substrate according to claim 1 , characterized in that the lignin is alkaline lignin, organosolv lignin, or autohydrolysis lignin.
3. Substrate according to claim 1 , characterized in that the crosslinking substance is a diglycidyl ether.
4. Substrate according to claim 3 , characterized in that the modified lignin is crosslinked via 5 to 15 ethylene oxide groups.
5. Substrate according to claim 4 , characterized in that the modified lignin is crosslinked via 8 to 10 ethylene oxide groups.
