Abstract

An information communication method selects between a visible light communication mode in which information is obtained from a subject using an image sensor having a plurality of exposure lines and a normal imaging mode. The method includes obtaining first image data by image capture with a first exposure time in the normal imaging mode. When an image is presented that prompts a user of a terminal device including the image sensor to move the terminal device to enable the information to be obtained, second image data is obtained by image capture with a second exposure time, shorter than the first exposure time, in the visible light communication mode. The information is obtained by demodulating data specified by a direction in a pattern of a bright line appearing in the second image data and corresponding to the exposure lines that is substantially perpendicular to the exposure lines.

Claims (25)

1. An information communication method for selecting between a visible light communication mode in which information is obtained from a subject using an image sensor having a plurality of exposure lines and a normal imaging mode, the information communication method comprising:

obtaining first image data by image capture with a first exposure time in the normal imaging mode by sequentially starting exposure of each of the exposure lines of the image sensor at different times and starting exposure of a next one of the exposure lines before exposure of a current one of the exposure lines is complete; and

when an image is presented that prompts a user of a terminal including the image sensor to move the terminal to enable the information to be obtained, and the user moves the terminal in accordance with the presented image, obtaining second image data by image capture with a second exposure time in the visible light communication mode by sequentially starting exposure of each of the exposure lines of the image sensor at different times and starting exposure of a next one of the exposure lines before exposure of a current one of the exposure lines is complete, and obtaining the information by demodulating data specified by a direction in a pattern of a bright line appearing in the second image data and corresponding to the exposure lines that is substantially perpendicular to the exposure lines, the second exposure time being shorter than the first exposure time.

2. An information communication device for selecting between a visible light communicator that obtains information from a subject using an image sensor having a plurality of exposure lines and a normal imager,

the normal imager being configured to obtain first image data by image capture with a first exposure time in a normal mode by sequentially starting exposure of each of the exposure lines of the image sensor at different times and starting exposure of a next one of the exposure lines before exposure of a current one of the exposure lines is complete,

when an image is presented that prompts a user of a terminal including the image sensor to move the terminal to enable the information to be obtained, and the user moves the terminal in accordance with the presented image, the visible light communicator being configured to obtain second image data by image capture with a second exposure time in a visible light communication mode by sequentially starting exposure of each of the exposure lines of the image sensor at different times and starting exposure of a next one of the exposure lines before exposure of a current one of the exposure lines is complete, and to obtain the information by demodulating data specified by a direction in a pattern of a bright line appearing in the second image data and corresponding to the exposure lines that is substantially perpendicular to the exposure lines, the second exposure time being shorter than the first exposure time.

3. The information communication device according to claim 2 ,

wherein an the first image data obtained by the normal mode and the second mage data obtained by the visible light mode are stored in a same terminal.

4. The information communication device according to claim 3 ,

wherein the same terminal is a smart phone.

5. The information communication device according to claim 2 ,

wherein the first image data obtained by the normal mode is stored in the terminal.

6. The information communication device according to claim 2 ,

wherein a program for obtaining second image data by the visible light mode is sent from a server and stored in the terminal.

7. A non-transitory recording medium having recorded thereon a computer program for controlling an information communicator that obtains first image data by image capture with a first exposure time by sequentially starting exposure of each of the exposure lines of an image sensor at different times and starting exposure of a next one of the exposure lines before exposure of a current one of the exposure lines is complete, the computer program causing the information communicator to execute instructions comprising:

when an image is presented that prompts a user of the information communicator including the image sensor to move the terminal to enable the information to be obtained, and the user moves the information communicator in accordance with the presented image,

obtaining second image data by image capture with a second exposure time by sequentially starting exposure of each of the exposure lines of the image sensor at different times and starting exposure of a next one of the exposure lines before exposure of a current one of the exposure lines is complete; and

obtaining the information by demodulating data specified by a direction in a pattern of a bright line appearing in the second image data and corresponding to the exposure lines that is substantially perpendicular to the exposure lines, the second exposure time being shorter than the first exposure time.

8. A method of sending a computer program from a server to a computer, the information communicator obtaining first image data by image capture with a first exposure time by sequentially starting exposure of each of the exposure lines of the image sensor at different times and starting exposure of a next one of the exposure lines before exposure of a current one of the exposure lines is complete, the method comprising:

receiving a request from the information communicator to send the computer program to the information communicator; and

sending the computer program to the information communicator when the request is received,

wherein the computer program causes the information communicator to execute instructions comprising:

when an image is presented that prompts a user of the information communicator including the image sensor to move the information communicator to enable the information to be obtained, and the user moves the information communicator in accordance with the presented image,

obtaining second image data by image capture with a second exposure time by sequentially starting exposure of each of the exposure lines of the image sensor at different times and starting exposure of a next one of the exposure lines before exposure of a current one of the exposure lines is complete; and

obtaining the information by demodulating data specified by a direction in a pattern of a bright line appearing in the second image data and corresponding to the exposure lines that is substantially perpendicular to the exposure lines, the second exposure time being shorter than the first exposure time.
