Abstract

An image recording device is provided, having a recording unit configured to record an image on a sheet, and a tray disposed below the recording unit. The tray includes a sheet holding surface configured to hold the sheet. Additionally, the image recording device includes a sheet feeder disposed between the recording unit and the tray. The sheet feeder includes a roller for feeding the sheet from the tray. The roller is configured to move between a first roller position in which the roller contacts the sheet holding surface of the tray and a second roller position in which the roller is separated from the sheet holding surface. A return guide, disposed between the recording unit and the sheet feeder, defines a second conveying path to guide the sheet having an image recorded on one side thereof back to the feed guide. The return guide has a first opening configured to accommodate the roller of the sheet feeder when the roller is in the second roller position.

Claims (38)

1. An image recording device comprising:

a tray comprising a sheet holding surface configured to hold a sheet thereon, the tray being configured to advance to a feed position;

a sheet feeder comprising an arm and a roller rotatably supported by the arm, the arm being configured to pivot about a pivot axis such that the roller moves between a first roller position in which the roller contacts and feeds the sheet on the sheet holding surface of the tray in the feed position, and a second roller position in which the roller is separated from the sheet on the sheet holding surface of the tray;

a recording unit configured to record an image on the sheet fed by the roller of the sheet feeder; and

a sheet guide configured to guide the sheet having the image recorded thereon, the sheet guide having an opening,

wherein the arm of the sheet feeder is pushed by the tray to pivot about the pivot axis when the tray advances to the feed position, and a portion of the sheet feeder moves into the opening of the sheet guide when the roller moves to the second roller position in response to pivoting of the arm.

2. The image recording device according to claim 1 ,

wherein the tray is configured to retract from the feed position, and

wherein the arm of the sheet feeder is pushed by the tray to pivot about the pivot axis when the tray retracts from the feed position, and the portion of the sheet feeder moves into the opening of the sheet guide when the roller moves to the second roller position in response to pivoting of the arm.

3. The image recording device according to claim 1 , wherein the roller of the sheet feeder is entirely outside the opening of the sheet guide when the roller is in the first roller position.

4. The image recording device according to claim 1 , wherein a lower end of the roller of the sheet feeder is outside the opening regardless whether the roller is in the first roller position or in the second roller position.

5. The image recording device according to claim 1 , wherein the roller of the sheer feeder is configured to feed the sheet in a sheet feeding direction from the tray, and the pivot axis of the arm of the sheet feeder is positioned upstream of the roller in the sheet feeding direction.

6. The image recording device according to claim 1 , wherein the pivot axis of the arm of the sheet feeder is located at one end of the arm and the roller is rotatably supported by the other end of the arm.

7. The image recording device according to claim 1 , wherein the sheet feeder is entirely outside the opening of the sheet guide when the roller of the sheet feeder is in the first roller position.

8. The image recording device according to claim 1 , wherein a portion of the roller of the sheet feeder moves into the opening of the sheet guide when the roller moves to the second roller position in response to pivoting of the arm.

9. The image recording device according to claim 1 , wherein the sheet guide extends over the pivot axis of the arm of the sheet feeder.

10. The image recording device according to claim 1 , wherein the sheet guide is movable.

11. The image recording device according to claim 10 , wherein the sheet guide is pivotable.

12. The image recording device according to claim 1 , wherein the sheet guide is configured to guide the sheet having the image thereon back toward the recording unit.

13. An image recording device comprising:

a tray comprising a sheet holding surface configured to hold a sheet thereon, the tray being configured to advance to a feed position;

a sheet feeder comprising an arm and a roller rotatably supported by the arm, the arm being configured to pivot about a pivot axis such that the roller moves between a first roller position in which the roller contacts and feeds the sheet on the sheet holding surface of the tray in the feed position, and a second roller position in which the roller is separated from the sheet on the sheet holding surface of the tray;

a recording unit configured to record an image on the sheet fed by the roller of the sheet feeder; and

a sheet guide configured to guide the sheet having the image recorded thereon, the sheet guide having a through-hole,

wherein the arm of the sheet feeder is pushed by the tray to pivot about the pivot axis when the tray advances to the feed position, and a portion of the sheet feeder moves into the through-hole of the sheet guide when the roller moves to the second roller position in response to pivoting of the arm.

14. The image recording device according to claim 13 ,

wherein the tray is configured to retract from the feed position, and

wherein the arm of the sheet feeder is pushed by the tray to pivot about the pivot axis when the tray retracts from the feed position, and the portion of the sheet feeder moves into the through-hole of the sheet guide when the roller moves to the second roller position in response to pivoting of the arm.

15. The image recording device according to claim 13 , wherein the roller of the sheet feeder is entirely outside the through-hole of the sheet guide when the roller is in the first roller position.

16. The image recording device according to claim 13 , wherein a lower end of the roller of the sheet feeder is outside the through-hole regardless whether the roller is in the first roller position or in the second roller position.

17. The image recording device according to claim 13 , wherein the roller of the sheer feeder is configured to feed the sheet in a sheet feeding direction from the tray, and the pivot axis of the arm of the sheet feeder is positioned upstream of the roller in the sheet feeding direction.

18. The image recording device according to claim 13 , wherein the pivot axis of the arm of the sheet feeder is located at one end of the arm and the roller is rotatably supported by the other end of the arm.

19. The image recording device according to claim 13 , wherein the sheet feeder is entirely outside the through-hole of the sheet guide when the roller of the sheet feeder is in the first roller position.

20. The image recording device according to claim 13 , wherein a portion of the roller of the sheet feeder moves into the through-hole of the sheet guide when the roller moves to the second roller position in response to pivoting of the arm.

21. The image recording device according to claim 13 , wherein the sheet guide extends over the pivot axis of the arm of the sheet feeder.

22. The image recording device according to claim 13 , wherein the sheet guide is movable.

23. The image recording device according to claim 22 , wherein the sheet guide is pivotable.

24. The image recording device according to claim 13 , wherein the sheet guide is configured to guide the sheet having the image thereon back toward the recording unit.
