Abstract

A conveyor includes a support frame, an inclined tube mounted to the support frame, a cleated belt that conveys the material from the hopper through the tube and a hopper at a lower end of the tube for receiving material, wherein the hopper comprises a cleanout unit with a detachable cover that is detachably mounted to the hopper.

Claims (19)

1. A conveyor comprising:

a support frame;

an inclined tube mounted to the support frame;

a cleated belt that conveys the material through the tube; and

a hopper at a lower end of the tube for receiving material, wherein the hopper comprises a cleanout unit with a detachable cover that is detachably mounted to the hopper to enclose a lower roller around which the belt travels wherein the detachable cover is a U-shaped cover defining a curved path inside the cleanout unit such that there is a small clearance gap between cleats of the cleated belt and an inner curved surface of the cleanout unit.

2. The conveyor as claimed in claim 1 wherein the detachable cover attaches to side walls of the hopper.

3. The conveyor as claimed in claim 1 wherein the cleanout unit with the detachable cover is narrower than a width of the hopper.

4. The conveyor as claimed in claim 1 wherein the cleanout unit with the detachable cover comprises a pair of elastomeric skirts mounted to respective skirt-retaining plates.

5. The conveyor as claimed in claim 4 wherein the skirt-retaining plates are supported by two spaced-apart curved side plates.

6. The conveyor as claimed in claim 5 wherein the side plates are joined together by a top plate and a bottom plate.

7. The conveyor as claimed in claim 6 wherein the cleanout unit with the detachable cover further comprises a pair of side spacers extending laterally along the curved side plates.

8. The conveyor as claimed in claim 7 wherein the cleanout unit with the detachable cover further comprises a pair of top mount plates and a pair of bottom mount plates extending from the edges of the spacers to provide mounting points for mounting the cleanout unit with the detachable cover to side walls of the hopper.

9. The conveyor as claimed in claim 2 wherein the cleanout unit with the detachable cover is narrower than a width of the hopper.

10. The conveyor as claimed in claim 9 wherein the cleanout unit with the detachable cover comprises a pair of elastomeric skirts mounted to respective skirt-retaining plates.

11. The conveyor as claimed in claim 10 wherein the skirt-retaining plates are supported by two spaced-apart curved side plates.

12. The conveyor as claimed in claim 11 wherein the side plates are joined together by a top plate and a bottom plate.

13. The conveyor as claimed in claim 12 wherein the cleanout unit with the detachable cover further comprises a pair of side spacers extending laterally along the curved side plates.

14. The conveyor as claimed in claim 13 wherein the cleanout unit with the detachable cover further comprises a pair of top mount plates and a pair of bottom mount plates extending from the edges of the spacers to provide mounting points for mounting the cleanout unit with the detachable cover to side walls of the hopper.

15. The conveyor as claimed in claim 1 wherein the inner curved surface has a constant curvature.
