Abstract

A system and method for optimizing handover parameters for a plurality of mobile terminals on a common transportation platform in a cellular network includes at least a first terminal and a second terminal and a controller. The controller is configured to determine that each of the first and second terminal are on the common transportation platform, monitor a status of a handover attempt of the first terminal, and if the handover attempt is successful, adopt handover parameter settings of the first terminal for the second terminal, and if the handover attempt is not successful, change handover parameter settings for the second terminal.

Claims (46)

1. A method, for optimizing a handover parameter setting, applied to a handover procedure of mobile terminals on a common transportation platform in a communication cellular network, wherein a handover parameter setting is predetermined for the handover procedure, and the method comprises:

monitoring, by a network device, a status of a handover attempt of a first mobile terminal on the common transportation platform, wherein the predetermined handover parameter setting is used in the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal; and

controlling, by the network device according to the status of the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal, a handover parameter setting used in a handover attempt of a second mobile terminal on the common transportation platform, wherein the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal is made after the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the controlling the handover parameter setting used in the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal, comprises:

adopting, when the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal is successful, the predetermined handover parameter setting as the handover parameter setting used in the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal; and

adopting, when the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal is not successful, a handover parameter setting that is different from the predetermined handover parameter setting in the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

setting, by the network device, different time to trigger the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal and the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein when the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal is not successful, the method further comprises:

controlling, by the network device, the second mobile terminal to delay a timing of the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein when the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal is not successful, the method further comprises:

controlling, by the network device, the second mobile terminal advance a timing of the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, by the network device, whether the first mobile terminal and the second mobile terminal are on the common transportation platform.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining whether the first mobile terminal and the second mobile terminal are on the common transportation platform, comprises:

receiving signal strength measurements for different cells along a route of the common transportation platform; and

determining whether the first mobile terminal and the second mobile terminal are on the common transportation platform by using the received signal strength measurements.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining whether the first mobile terminal and the second mobile terminal are on the common transportation platform, comprises:

receiving an identifier of the common transportation platform or an identifier of an onboard short range communication device on the common transportation platform; and

determining whether the first mobile terminal and the second mobile terminal are on the common transportation platform by using the identifier of the common transportation platform or the identifier of the onboard short range communication device.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining whether the first mobile terminal and the second mobile terminal are on the common transportation platform, comprises:

receiving an identifier of the first mobile terminal and an identifier of the second mobile terminal; and

determining whether the first mobile terminal and the second mobile terminal are on the common transportation platform by using the identifier of the first mobile terminal and the identifier of the second mobile terminal.

10. A network device comprising a memory in communication with a processor, the memory including program instructions for execution by the processor to:

optimize a handover parameter setting, applied to a handover procedure of mobile terminals on a common transportation platform in a communication cellular network, wherein a handover parameter setting is predetermined for the handover procedure, wherein the program instructions to optimize the handover parameter setting comprise instructions to monitor a status of a handover attempt of a first mobile terminal on the common transportation platform, wherein the predetermined handover parameter setting is used in the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal; and

control, according to the status of the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal, a handover parameter setting used in a handover attempt of a second mobile terminal on the common transportation platform, wherein the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal is made after the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal.

11. The device of claim 10 , wherein for controlling the handover parameter setting used in the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal, the program instructions for execution by the processor to:

adopt, when the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal is successful, the predetermined handover parameter setting as the handover parameter setting used in the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal; and

adopt, when the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal is not successful, a handover parameter setting that is different from the predetermined handover parameter setting in the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal.

12. The device of claim 10 , wherein the memory further comprises program instructions for execution by the processor to:

set different time to trigger the handover attempt of the first mobile terminal and the handover attempt of the second mobile terminal.
