Single-serve containers for use in brewing a cannabis -based beverage are described, as are methods for preparing a single-serve container configured for receipt in a single-serve brewing machine. The method includes: adding a processed cannabis product to the single-serve container; adding, to the single-serve container, at least one of an extraction or flavoring agent; and sealing the single-serve container.
1. A method of preparing a single-serve container configured for receipt in a single-serve brewing machine, the method comprising:
processing cannabis by pulverizing the cannabis to a particle size that is less than a threshold and by heating the cannabis at a sufficient temperature and for a sufficient time period to decarboxylate the cannabis , the threshold being one millimeter or less than one millimeter;
adding the processed cannabis to the single-serve container;
adding, to the single-serve container, an effective amount of a lipid-rich food-based extraction agent, wherein the extraction agent is in the form of a powder, is solid at room temperature and provides at least 0.9 grams of fat in the container; and
sealing the single-serve container.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the food-based extraction agent is selected from a group consisting of:
milk powder;
powdered coconut flakes;
quinoa flour;
powdered dairy creamer;
powdered non-dairy creamer;
cocoa powder;
chocolate powder;
powdered flax meal; and
almond flour.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein heating the cannabis comprises:
heating the cannabis in an oven.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the temperature is between 120 and 140 degrees Celsius and the time period is in the range of 30 to 60 minutes.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein pulverizing comprises passing pulverized cannabis through a sieve, the sieve configured to filter out cannabis having a particle size greater than the threshold, and wherein adding the processed cannabis to the single-serve container comprises adding only the cannabis having a particle size less than the threshold.
6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising adding, to the single-serve container, a flavoring agent, and wherein the flavoring agent is one of: tea, coffee, chocolate, latte, or cappuccino.
7. A single-serve container for use with a single-serve brewing machine, the single-serve container comprising a body portion having an open end and a membrane covering the open end of the body portion, the membrane and the body portion defining a cavity, the single-serve container prepared by performing the steps of:
processing cannabis by pulverizing the cannabis to a particle size that is less than a threshold and by heating the cannabis at a sufficient temperature and for a sufficient time period to decarboxylate the cannabis , the threshold being one none millimeter or less than one millimeter;
adding the processed cannabis within the cavity;
adding, to the cavity, an effective amount of a lipid-rich food-based extraction agent, wherein the extraction agent is in the form of a powder, is solid at room temperature and provides at least 0.9 grams of fat in the container; and
sealing the single-serve container with the membrane.
8. The single-serve container of claim 7 , wherein the body portion is rigid, the single-serve container further comprising a filter disposed within the cavity, and wherein the cannabis is located within a cavity defined by the membrane and the filter.
9. The single-serve container of claim 7 , wherein the body portion is permeable and acts as both a filter and a housing for the container.
10. The single-serve container of claim 7 , wherein the food-based extraction agent is selected from a group consisting of:
milk powder;
powdered coconut flakes;
quinoa flour;
powdered dairy creamer;
powdered non dairy creamer;
cocoa powder;
chocolate powder;
powdered flax meal; and
almond flour.
11. The single-serve container of claim 7 , further comprising adding a flavoring agent located within the cavity, and wherein the flavoring agent is selected from the group of:
tea;
coffee;
chocolate;
flavoured coffee;
latte; or
cappuccino.
