Abstract

Biomarker proteins that can be used in the diagnosis of early-stage endometrial cancer are described. Methods of screening for endometrial cancer, as well as methods of detecting and monitoring the status of endometrial cancer are provided. The biomarkers can be used to detect a variety of endometrial cancers, including endometroid carcinoma, clear cell carcinoma and serous carcinoma.

Claims (16)

1. A method of treating endometrial cancer in a subject comprising:

(a) measuring binding of antibodies in a serum sample obtained from the subject, wherein the antibodies specifically bind three biomarkers consisting of transthyretin (TTR), apolipoprotein AI (ApoAI) and transferrin (TF) in the serum sample;

(b) administering radiotherapy or chemotherapeutic drugs for endometrial cancer to the subject when a decrease is found in the measured three biomarkers of in the serum sample compared to the measurement of the three biomarkers in the normal sample.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the decrease in the measured three biomarkers is a decrease of at least 5% compared to the normal sample.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the decrease in the measured three biomarkers of cancer is a decrease of at least 10% compared to the normal sample.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the measuring comprises immunoturbimetry.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the measuring further comprises measuring CA-125 in a serum sample of the subject and comparing the measured CA-125 to a measurement of CA-125 in a normal sample, wherein an increase in the measured CA-125 of the serum sample compared to the normal sample.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the endometrial cancer comprises endometrioid carcinoma, clear cell carcinoma or serous carcinoma.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the measuring distinguishes normal samples from early-stage endometrial cancer with a sensitivity of 71%, and/or distinguishes normal samples from late stage endometrial cancer with a sensitivity of 82%.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the measuring distinguishes normal samples from early-stage endometrial cancer with a specificity of 88%, and/or distinguishes normal samples from late stage endometrial cancer with a specificity of 86%.

9. A method of analyzing a serum sample obtained from a subject comprising:

(a) contacting the serum sample obtained from a subject suspected of having endometrial cancer with antibodies that specifically bind three biomarkers consisting of transthyretin (TTR), apolipoprotein AI (ApoAI) and transferrin (TF); and

(b) measuring binding of the antibodies to TTR, ApoAI and TF to measure the three biomarkers in the sample.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the analyzing further comprises measuring CA-125 in a serum sample of the subject.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the measuring comprises enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the measuring comprises enzyme-linked immunoturbimetry.
