Abstract

Co-channel operation systems, methods, and devices are discussed in this document. Some embodiments can include remote stations configured for co-channel operation with one or more other remote stations. Remote stations can generally comprise a processor and a memory in electronic communication with the processor. Instructions can be stored in the memory, and when executed by the processor cause a remote station to receive a first data sequence from a first base station; use the first data sequence to distinguish a first signal transmitted by the first base station from unwanted signals transmitted by one or more other base stations; and demodulate the first signal. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the third data sequence is used to compensate for channel degradations that vary over time.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the third data sequence is used to reduce interference from other sectors.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the third data sequence is used to synchronize a receiver of the remote station to the second signal.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising extracting a desired signal from unwanted reflections of the second signal by constructing an inverse filter to extract parts of the desired signal which have been corrupted by multipath fading.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein power levels of the unwanted signals are below a threshold relative to an amplitude of the second signal.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the remote station is a downlink advanced receiver performance (DARP) receiver.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the unwanted signals are treated as co-channel interference and are rejected.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein an amplitude of the unwanted signals is less than 10 decibels higher than an amplitude of the second signal.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising measuring a first bit error probability for the first data sequence.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the characteristics of the first data sequence and the second data sequence comprise the first bit error probability.

12. The method of claim 10 , further comprising measuring a second bit error probability for the second data sequence, wherein the characteristics of the first data sequence and the second data sequence comprise the first bit error probability and the second bit error probability.

13. A remote station configured for co-channel operation with one or more other remote stations, the remote station comprising:

a processor;

memory in electronic communication with the processor; and

use the third data sequence to distinguish the second signal transmitted by the base station from the one or more unwanted signals transmitted by the base station; and

demodulate the second signal.

14. The remote station of claim 13 , wherein the third data sequence is used to compensate for channel degradations which vary quickly with time.

15. The remote station of claim 13 , wherein the third data sequence is used to reduce interference from other sectors.

16. The remote station of claim 13 , wherein the third data sequence is used to synchronize a receiver of the remote station to the second signal.

17. The remote station of claim 13 , wherein the instructions are further executable to extract a desired signal from unwanted reflections of the second signal by constructing an inverse filter to extract parts of the desired signal which have been corrupted by multipath fading.

18. The remote station of claim 13 , wherein power levels of the unwanted signals are below a threshold relative to an amplitude of the second signal.

19. The remote station of claim 13 , wherein the remote station is a downlink advanced receiver performance (DARP) receiver.

20. The remote station of claim 13 , wherein the unwanted signals are treated as co-channel interference and are rejected.
