Abstract

A bio-pressure sensor system is disclosed, comprising a first sensor configured to provide a reference pressure measurement and second sensor configured to measure a fluid pressure within a human body. The bio-pressure sensor system also comprises a first reference element and second reference element. The first and second sensors share the first reference element. The second reference element is coupled to the first sensor and configured to provide a reference pressure. The first and second sensors each comprise independent output signals.

Claims (30)

1. A bio-pressure sensor system, comprising:

a first implantable sensor to provide a reference pressure measurement;

a second implantable sensor to measure a fluid pressure associated with a bodily fluid within a human body;

a first reference element; and

a second reference element in fluid communication with the first implantable sensor, the second reference element to provide a reference pressure, the second reference element comprising a static fluid, the static fluid being different than the bodily fluid, wherein the reference pressure comprises a known first reference pressure provided at a first position and a known second reference pressure provided at a second position, the first position being defined as a reference axis being parallel with a gravitational field acting on the second reference element, and the second position being defined as the reference axis being orthogonal to the gravitational field, wherein the reference axis extends through the second reference element and orthogonal to the first implantable sensor,

wherein:

the first and second implantable sensors share the first reference element,

the second implantable sensor is not in fluid communication with the second reference element, and

the first and second implantable sensors each comprise independent output signals.

2. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the second reference element is a hydrostatic device.

3. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the second reference element is a tube with a first open end and a second open end in communication with the first implantable sensor.

4. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the first reference element is a gas in contact with each of the first and second implantable sensors.

5. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 1 , further comprising a power unit to inductively or optically power the first and second implantable sensors.

6. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 1 , further comprising a receiver to wirelessly receive the independent output signals.

7. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 6 , wherein the receiver is at least one of a computer, a smartphone, or a mobile device.

8. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 1 , further comprising a first amplifier and a second amplifier, wherein each of the independent output signals of the first and second implantable sensors are independently provided to first and second amplifiers.

9. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 8 , further comprising an encoder and a transmitter, wherein the encoder encodes signals received from the first and second amplifiers and provides them to the transmitter, and wherein the transmitter transmits the encoded signals to the receiver.

10. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 1 , further comprising a ventricular catheter operatively coupled to the second implantable sensor, the ventricular catheter to provide fluid communication between the bodily fluid and the second implantable sensor.

11. The biopressure sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the first and second implantable sensors are of substantially similar material properties and characteristics.

12. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 1 , wherein the fluid pressure associated with the bodily fluid measured by the second implantable sensor is associated with an intra-cranial pressure.

13. The bio-pressure sensor system of claim 12 , further comprising a fluid-filled bladder operatively coupled to the second implantable sensor, the fluid-filled bladder to provide the intra-cranial pressure measurement.

14. A bio-pressure sensor system, comprising:

a first implantable sensor to provide a reference pressure measurement;

a second implantable sensor to measure a fluid pressure associated with a bodily fluid within a human body;

a first reference element; and

a second reference element in fluid communication with the first implantable sensor, the second reference element to provide a reference pressure, the second reference element comprising a static fluid, the static fluid being different than the bodily fluid, wherein the reference pressure comprises a known difference between a first reference pressure provided at a first position and a second reference pressure provided at a second position, the first position being defined as a reference axis being at a first angle with a gravitational field acting on the second reference element, and the second position being defined as the reference axis being at a second angle to the gravitational field, wherein the reference axis extends through the second reference element and wherein the first angle and the second angle are different,

wherein:

the first and second implantable sensors share the first reference element,

the second implantable sensor is not in fluid communication with the second reference element, and

the first and second implantable sensors each comprise independent output signals.
