Abstract

An automatic banking machine operates responsive to data read from data bearing records corresponding to authorized user or financial account data. The machine includes a card reader for reading data from user cards. The automated banking machine causes financial transfers related to financial accounts that correspond to data read from user cards. The automated banking machine also includes devices that control the supply of power to included devices to avoid exceeding power supply capacity.

Claims (27)

1. A non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of execution having instructions encoded thereon for execution by a processor, and when executed operable to:

cause a battery to be charged by power supplied by a battery charger;

cause power to be delivered from a solar panel associated with an automated banking machine to one of a group consisting of a card reader, a display, and a receipt printer that are associated with the automated banking machine, the automated banking machine comprises a cash dispenser, a battery and a plurality of alternate power sources, wherein one of the plurality of alternate power sources includes the solar panel; and

wherein during a transaction being conducted by the automated banking machine that comprises the instructions are operable to:

determine an amount of power required to operate a selected one of the group consisting of the display, the card reader, and the receipt printer,

determine power currently available from the plurality of alternate power sources,

cause power to be delivered to the cash dispenser from the battery, and

cause power to be delivered from the plurality of alternate power sources to one of the group consisting of the card reader, the display, and the receipt printer, responsive at least in part to at least one of the group consisting of determining the amount of power required to operate the selected one of the group consisting of the display, the card reader, and the receipt printer, and determining power currently available from the plurality of alternate power sources

provide control signals to controller switching devices in a H-Bridge control circuit coupled with a voltage boosted stepper motor that is coupled with the cash dispenser, the voltage boosted stepper motor comprises:

a stator coil coupled with the battery

a blocking diode coupled with the stator and the battery; and

a boost capacitor coupled with the blocking diode; and

wherein the blocking diode prevents the stator from discharging into the power supply.

2. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 1 , the instructions are operable to cause power to be delivered from the solar panel to two of the group consisting of the card reader, the display, and the receipt printer that are associated with the automated banking machine, the automated banking machine comprises a cash dispenser, a battery and a plurality of alternate power sources.

3. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 1 , the instructions are operable to cause power to be delivered from the solar panel to the group consisting of the card reader, the display, and the receipt printer that are associated with the automated banking machine.

4. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 1 , the instructions are operable to cause power to be delivered from the plurality of alternate power sources to two of the group consisting of the card reader, the display, and the receipt printer, responsive at least in part to at least one of the group consisting of determining the amount of power required to operate the selected one of the group consisting of the display, the card reader, and the receipt printer, and determining power currently available from the plurality of alternate power sources.

5. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 1 , the instructions are operable to cause power to be delivered from the plurality of alternate power sources to three of the group consisting of the card reader, the display, and the receipt printer, responsive at least in part to at least one of the group consisting of determining the amount of power required to operate the selected one of the group consisting of the display, the card reader, and the receipt printer, and determining power currently available from the plurality of alternate power sources.

6. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 1 , wherein a first end of the H-Bridge control circuit is coupled with the blocking diode and a second end of the H-Bridge control circuit is coupled with a ground.

7. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 6 , wherein the blocking diode is between the H-Bridge control circuit and the power supply.

8. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 7 , wherein a first end of the boost capacitor is coupled with the blocking diode and the H-Bridge control circuit, and the second end of the boost capacitor is coupled with the ground.

9. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 8 , wherein the stator is operable to discharge through the H-Bridge control circuit into the boost capacitor.

10. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 9 , wherein the boost capacitor is operable to provide current to the stator while the voltage of the capacitor is greater than a predetermined threshold voltage.

11. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 10 , wherein the predetermined threshold voltage is the voltage of the power supply minus a voltage across the blocking diode.

12. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 1 , wherein the stepping motor is a bipolar stepping motor.

13. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 12 , wherein the control signals provided by the processor are operable to close a first pair of controllable switching devices and open a second pair of controllable switching devices to cause current flow in a first direction in the stator.

14. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 13 , wherein the control signals provided by the processor are operable to close the second pair of controllable switching devices and open the first pair of controllable switching devices to cause current flow in a second direction in the stator.

15. The computer readable medium set forth in claim 12 , wherein the control signals provided by the processor are operable to change the polarity on ends of a winding.
