Abstract

A system allows smart backup and restore of databases. The system identifies a database affected by a database operation recorded by a database event record, identifies a database operation time recorded by the database event record, and requests to restore the database to a version backed up prior to the database operation time.

Claims (38)

1. A method, for restoring a database, performed by an apparatus comprising a control unit, a storage unit, and a database modification unit, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving, received by a network interface unit, an audit policy wherein change requests and database change commands are retrieved according to the audit policy;

matching each database change, received by a network interface unit, to a change request, the change request results in one or more database change;

matching each change request, received by a network interface unit, to one or more database command;

determining, by the control unit, if there is any unmatched change request or database command;

identifying, by the control unit, for at least one unmatched database change command, a database affected by the unmatched database change command recorded by a database event record;

identifying, by the control unit, a database operation time recorded by the database event record; and

restoring, by the database modification unit, the database to a version backed up prior to the database operation time.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of restoring the database further comprising the steps of:

identifying, by the control unit, a plurality of database operations executed to the database after the database operation time; and

executing the plurality of database operations.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:

receiving a database restore instruction from a user interface unit, and receiving a database event record that identifies a database to be restored.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:

receiving an indication of database corruption; and

retrieving a database event record associated with the database.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:

retrieving, from the storage unit, a database event that retrieves data from the database after the database operation time; and

displaying the retrieved database event to a user as an affected operation.

6. A non-transitory computer readable medium on which is stored a computer program for restoring database, the computer program comprising computer instructions that when executed by a computing device causes the computing device to perform the steps for:

receiving an audit policy wherein change requests and database change commands are retrieved according to the audit policy;

matching each database change to a change request, wherein the change request results in one or more database change;

matching each change request to one or more database commands;

determining if there is any unmatched change request or database command;

identifying, for at least one unmatched database change command, a database affected by the unmatched change command recorded by a database event record;

identifying a database change command issued time recorded by the database event record; and

restoring the database to a version backed up prior to the database change command issued time.

7. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 , wherein the step of restoring the database further comprises the steps for:

identifying a plurality of database operations executed to the database after the database change time; and

executing the plurality of database operations.

8. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 , wherein the computer program causes the computing device to perform the steps for:

receiving a database restore instruction from a user interface unit, and receiving a database event record that identifies a database to be restored.

9. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 , wherein the computer program causes the computing device to perform the steps for:

receiving an indication of database corruption; and

retrieving a database event record associated with the database.

10. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 6 , wherein the computer program causes the computing device to perform the steps for:

retrieving a database event that retrieves data from the database after the database change time; and

displaying the retrieved database event to a user as an affected operation.
