Abstract

An apparatus that supports a tattoo artist in a variety of positions to comfortably apply one or more tattoos to skin of a subject is herein disclosed. The apparatus can be reconfigured to optimally position and support the arms and/or chest of the tattoo artist. A method for using a tattoo stool can involve rotating armrests of the apparatus from a stowed position to a deployed position. The armrests can support the user's forearms while supporting the user's chest such that the user can comfortably tattoo a portion of the subject positioned in front of the stool.

Claims (30)

1. A stool, comprising:

a seat assembly; and

a chest support assembly including

a chest support having a chest support surface configured to contact and support a chest of a user sitting on the seat assembly and straddling the stool, and

at least one armrest movable between a first position and a second position, wherein the at least one armrest in the first position has a support surface that is flush with the chest support surface such that the support surface is positioned to support the user's upper body contacting the chest support, and the at least one armrest in the second position extends away from the user's upper body when the user's chest contacts the chest support surface.

2. The stool of claim 1 , wherein the support surface and the chest support surface are configured to support a generally continuous area of the user's chest facing the chest support.

3. The stool of claim 1 , wherein the first position is a raised position and the second position is a lowered position.

4. The stool of claim 1 , wherein the at least one armrest includes a first armrest and a second armrest, wherein the first and second armrests are configured to be positioned directly underneath side portions of the chest support.

5. The stool of claim 1 , wherein the at least one armrest in the first position is located to contact the user's upper body.

6. The stool of claim 1 , wherein the chest support assembly, with the at least one armrest in the first position, has a generally planar configuration, and wherein the at least one armrest in the second position protrudes from the chest support.

7. The stool of claim 1 , wherein the at least one armrest in the second position is perpendicular to the chest support, wherein a seat of the seat assembly and most of the support surface are located on opposite sides of the chest support.

8. The stool of claim 1 , wherein the at least one armrest is rotatable relative to the chest support an angle from about 80 degrees to about 90 degrees.

9. The stool of claim 1 , wherein the at least one armrest includes a first armrest and a second armrest, wherein the chest support defines first and second armrest-receiving openings that receive the first and second armrests, respectively.

10. The stool of claim 1 , wherein the chest support assembly further includes a pivoting mechanism having an unlocked state for allowing the chest support to rotate relative to the seat assembly and having a locked state for preventing rotation of the chest support relative to the seat assembly.

11. A stool, comprising:

a seat;

a chest support positioned to contact an upper body of a user sitting on the seat and straddling the stool; and

a first armrest with a first support surface and being movable relative to the chest support to move the first support surface away from the user's torso the first armrest moves from a first position toward a second position, wherein

the first support surface of the first armrest in the first position is positioned to lay substantially flat against the user's upper body,

the first support surface of the first armrest in the second position is positioned to support the user's arm, and

the first support surface of the first armrest in the first position and a chest support surface of the chest support cooperate to define a gapless area for contacting the user's upper body.

12. The stool of claim 11 , further comprising a second armrest with a second support surface and being movable relative to the chest support to move the second support surface away from the user's torso, wherein

the second support surface of the second armrest in the third position is positioned to lay flat against the user's upper body, and

the second support surface of the second armrest in the fourth position is positioned to support one of the user's arms.

13. A stool, comprising:

a seat; and

a chest support assembly including a chest support and armrests, wherein each armrest is movable between a raised position for being flush with the chest support and a lowered position for supporting a user's arm located on a front side of the chest support, and wherein the chest support and the armrests in the raised position support the user's torso located on a backside of the chest support.

14. The stool of claim 13 , wherein the chest support and the armrests in the raised positions are configured define a generally continuous and gapless profile.

15. The stool of claim 13 , wherein the chest support assembly has a gapless surface defined by the chest support and the armrests in the raised position.

16. The stool of claim 13 , wherein the armrests in the lowered position extend outwardly past the front side of the chest support.
