Abstract

A head mounted display apparatus and a method for displaying a content are provided. More particularly, a head mounted display apparatus which changes an operation of a virtual character in a content displayed on a display in accordance with a plurality of touches and a method for displaying a content are provided. One of the exemplary embodiments include a head mounted display apparatus which changes an operation of a virtual character in a content displayed on a display corresponding to combination of a first touch detected from a touch pad of the head mounted display apparatus and a second touch detected from a peripheral portable apparatus and a method for displaying a content.

Claims (55)

1. A method of displaying content on a head mounted display apparatus, comprising:

displaying content in a head mounted display apparatus;

connecting wirelessly to a peripheral portable apparatus of the head mounted display apparatus;

detecting a first touch of a touch pad of the head mounted display apparatus;

receiving from the portable apparatus second touch information corresponding to a second touch detected from a touch screen of the portable apparatus;

combining the detected first touch and the received second touch information into a combination; and

changing an operation of a virtual character displayed in the content corresponding to a result of the combination.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the receiving comprises receiving a control packet corresponding to the second touch information from the portable apparatus.

3. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first touch includes a touch gesture and the second touch includes a touch gesture.

4. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein a peripheral object to the virtual character is changed corresponding to the operation of the virtual character.

5. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the operation of the virtual character corresponding to the result of the combination includes at least one of intensification of the operation of the virtual character and weakening of the operation of the virtual character.

6. A method of displaying content on a head mounted display apparatus, comprising:

displaying content in a head mounted display apparatus;

connecting wirelessly to a peripheral portable apparatus of the head mounted display apparatus;

detecting a first touch of a touch pad of the head mounted display apparatus;

receiving from the portable apparatus second touch information corresponding to a second touch detected from a touch screen of a portable apparatus; and

changing an operation of a virtual character displayed in the content corresponding to a combination of the first touch and the second touch information,

wherein the operation of the virtual character corresponding to the combination of the first touch and the second touch is distinguished from operation of the virtual character corresponding to the first touch.

7. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the changing comprises changing a speed of a continuous movement of the virtual character corresponding to a speed of a continuous movement of the first touch.

8. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the changing comprises moving the virtual character corresponding to a distance corresponding to a continuous movement of the first touch.

9. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein at least one of a visual feedback, an auditory feedback, and a tactile feedback is provided corresponding to change of the operation of the virtual character.

10. A head mounted display apparatus, comprising:

a display configured to display content;

a touch pad configured to receive a first touch;

a communication unit configured to be connected to a portable apparatus; and

a processor configured to combine the received first touch through the touch pad and second touch information received from the portable apparatus through the content displayed on the display corresponding to a result of the combination.

11. The apparatus as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the processor receives from the portable apparatus a control packet corresponding to the second touch through the communication unit, and

changes the operation of the virtual character corresponding to the received control packet.

12. The apparatus as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the processor calculates at least one of a direction of continuous movement, a distance of continuous movement, and a speed of continuous movement of the first touch, the movement being received from the touch pad.

13. The apparatus as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the processor changes the operation of the virtual character corresponding to the calculated at least one of the direction of continuous movement, the distance of continuous movement, and the speed of continuous movement of the first touch.

14. The apparatus as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the processor moves the virtual character in one of upper, lower, left, and right directions corresponding to a location of the first touch on the touch pad.

15. The apparatus as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the display is provided in one of an integrated form and a detachable form.

16. A method, comprising:

obtaining a first touch signal from a head mounted touch interface of a head mounted display;

obtaining a second touch signal from a handheld interface of a handheld device via a wireless signal;

combining the first touch signal from the head mounted display and the second touch signal from the handheld device as a combination; and

controlling a virtual object displayed on the head mounted display responsive to a result of the combination.

17. The method as claimed in claim 16 , wherein the first touch signal selects an action of the virtual object, and the second touch signal controls the action of the virtual object.

18. The method as claimed in claim 16 , wherein the first touch signal selects a control command of the head mounted display, and the second touch signal selects an image command of the head mounted display.

19. The method as claimed in claim 16 , wherein the head mounted display is wirelessly connected to the handheld device responsive to a communication device search made responsive to a user selection made on a displayed selection interface.

20. A method, comprising:

sensing a touch of a head mounted display interface and producing a first touch signal;

receiving a second touch signal from a handheld device via wireless signal;

combining the produced first touch signal and the received second touch signal as a combination; and

controlling a virtual object displayed on the head mounted display responsive to a result of the combination.

21. A system, comprising:

a portable apparatus, comprising:

a touch screen configured to display an executed touch pad application;

a communication unit configured to communicate with a head mounted display apparatus near the portable apparatus; and

a processor configured to control the communication unit to transmit a control packet corresponding to a touch received from the touch pad application to the head mounted display apparatus; and

the head mounted display apparatus, comprising:

a display configured to display content;

a touch pad configured to receive a first touch;

a communication unit configured to be connected to the portable apparatus; and

processor configured to combine the received first touch through the touch pad and second touch information received from the portable apparatus through the communication unit as a combination, and the change an operation of a virtual character of the content displayed on the display corresponding to a result of the combination.
