Abstract

A push-on coaxial cable connector includes a port grip, a joint, and a cable clamp.

Claims (31)

1. A push-on F-type coaxial connector comprising:

a joint interposed between a port grip and a cable clamp; a port grip bonnet includes a mouth and an adjacent throat; a post includes a tubular stem and an end bell, the stem having a stem neck adjoining the end bell;

the bonnet is an electrical insulator and the post is an electrical conductor; a joint collar interposed between the bonnet and a can, the collar for receiving the stem neck;

the bonnet and the end bell for receiving a mating F-type port; the bonnet configured to circumferentially seal around an inserted port; a bonnet throat wall for providing a first radial interference fit between the bonnet and the end bell; and

an end cap slidably engaging the can.

2. The connector of claim 1 , further comprising: a deformable ring carried within the end cap; and, the deformable ring for fixing a coaxial cable to the connector when sliding the end cap forces the deformable ring into an annulus between the can and the post.

3. The connector of claim 2 wherein the bonnet throat includes a sealing section adjacent to the bonnet mouth that is not threaded.

4. The connector of claim 2 wherein the bonnet throat includes a sealing section adjacent to the bonnet mouth that is threaded.

5. The connector of claim 1 , further comprising:

the port grip, joint, and can formed as a unitary structure;

an end cap inner diameter that is smaller than a can outer diameter; and,

the end cap for compressing the can when the end cap slides over the can.

6. The connector of claim 5 wherein the end cap has a cross section defining 3 or more sides, the sides for abutting the can.

7. The connector of claim 5 wherein the end cap has a cross section defining 6 sides, the sides for abutting the can.

8. The connector of claim 5 wherein circumferential ribs are spaced apart within the can.

9. The connector of claim 8 wherein the circumferential ribs are spaced such that they he between barbs on the tubular stem.

10. A method of providing a push-on F-type coaxial connector comprising the steps of:

interposing a joint between a port grip and a cable clamp wherein a port grip bonnet is an electrical insulator and includes a mouth adjacent to a throat;

providing an electrically conductive post with a tubular stem and an end bell, the stem having a stem neck adjoining the end bell;

interposing a joint collar between the bonnet and a can, the collar for receiving the stem neck, the port grip bonnet and end bell for receiving a mating F-type port;

circumferentially sealing between the bonnet and the port when the port is inserted in the port grip bonnet;

providing a first radial interference fit between the bonnet and the end bell when the port is inserted in the port grip bonnet;

constraining end bell fingers from radial deflection via a spring ring surrounding end bell fingers.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein an end cap engages a can exterior.

12. The method of claim 11 further comprising the step of: forming the port grip, joint, and cable clamp as one part.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein sliding the end cap toward the joint fixes a coaxial cable inserted in the connector to the connector.

14. The method of claim 13 further comprising the step of forming an end cap inner diameter that is smaller than a can outer diameter wherein the end cap is for compressing the ca n when the end cap slides over the can.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the end cap has a cross section defining or more sides, the sides for abutting the can.

16. The method of claim 14 wherein the end cap has a cross section defining 6 sides, the sides for abutting the can.

17. The method of claim 14 wherein circumferential ribs are spaced apart within the can.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein the circumferential ribs are spaced such that they he between barbs on the tubular stem.
