Abstract

Disclosed is a flexible display. The flexible display includes: a base layer which including a first portion having a first surface on which an organic light emitting element is disposed and a second portion extending from the outside of the first portion and bent toward a second surface opposing to the first surface; a protective film covering at least a part of the second portion to suppress permeation of moisture; a polarization layer disposed on the organic light emitting element of the first portion without having a barrier film between the polarization layer and the base layer; and a resin filled between the polarization layer and the protective film.

Claims (37)

1. A flexible display, comprising:

a base layer including a first portion having a first surface on which an organic light emitting element is disposed and a second portion extending from the outside of the first portion and bent toward a second surface opposite to the first surface;

a protective film covering at least a part of the second portion to suppress permeation of moisture;

a polarization layer disposed on the organic light emitting element of the first portion without a barrier film between the polarization layer and the base layer; and

a resin filled between the polarization layer and the protective film.

2. The flexible display according to claim 1 , wherein the protective film is a multi-layered film.

3. The flexible display according to claim 2 , wherein the protective film includes an adhesive layer in contact with the base layer, a protective substrate on the adhesive layer, and a cushion layer on the protective substrate.

4. The flexible display according to claim 2 , wherein the cushion layer is made of a rubber.

5. The flexible display according to claim 3 , wherein the protective film has a uniform thickness and density determined based on tensile stress applied to the second portion.

6. The flexible display according to claim 1 , further comprising a printed circuit board connected to the outside of the protective film in the second portion and a driver integrated circuit (IC) chip mounted on the printed circuit board.

7. The flexible display according to claim 6 , further comprising:

a resin filled between the protective film and the printed circuit board.

8. The flexible display according to claim 6 , further comprising a conductive line disposed on the second portion and connecting the driver IC chip and the organic light emitting element, wherein the protective film covers the conductive line.

9. The flexible display according to claim 6 , wherein the resin comprises a first part and a second part, the first part covering a side of the polarization layer and a first side of the protective film, and the second part covering a second side of the protective film and one side of the printed circuit board.

10. The flexible display according to claim 1 , further comprises a driver integrated circuit (IC) chip disposed at the outside of the protective film in the second portion.

11. The flexible display according to claim 10 , wherein the protective film includes a moisture absorbing material.

12. The flexible display according to claim 1 , wherein the protective film is pre-fabricated and attached to at least a part of the second portion of the base layer.

13. A flexible display, comprising:

a base layer including a flat portion and a curved portion connected to the flat portion;

an organic light emitting element disposed on the flat portion of the base layer;

a polarization layer on the organic light emitting portion;

a protective film on the curved portion of the base layer; and

a resin between the polarization layer and the protective film, the resin in contact with at least a side surface of the polarization layer and a first side surface of the protective film.

14. The flexible display of claim 13 , wherein the protective film includes:

an adhesive layer on the curved portion of the base layer for attaching the protective film to the curved portion of the base layer;

a protective substrate on the adhesive layer; and

a cushion layer on the protective substrate for absorbing impact on the protecting coating layer.

15. The flexible display of claim 13 , wherein the protective film has a uniform thickness or a uniform density.

16. The flexible display of claim 13 , further comprising:

a printed circuit board coupled to another flat portion of the base layer, the other flat portion connected to the curve portion at an opposite side of the flat portion; and

a second resin between the protective film and the printed circuit board, the second resin in contact with a side surface of the printed circuit board and a second side surface of the protective film at an opposite side of the first side surface.

17. The flexible display of claim 16 , further comprising:

one or more conductive lines disposed on the curved portion of the base layer, at least a portion of the one or more conductive lines covered by the protective film, wherein the one or more conductive lines couple the printed circuit board to the organic light emitting element.

18. The flexible display of claim 13 , wherein the protective film includes a moisture absorbing material.

19. The flexible display of claim 13 , wherein a compressive stress is applied to the base layer and a tensile stress is applied to the protective film.

20. The flexible display of claim 13 , wherein a thickness of the resin is equal to, or greater than a thickness of the polarization layer.

21. The flexible display device of claim 13 , wherein a curvature radius of the substantially flat portion of the base layer is larger than a curvature radius of the curved portion of the base layer.
