Abstract

A light emitting module and massage device provide vaginal rejuvenation. The device exposes collagen in the vaginal area or mucosa to temperatures elevated over normal body temperature to cause the collagen to reversibly or irreversibly denature while simultaneously applying vibration. Once thermally-induced collagen denaturation has occurred, both neoelastogenesis and neocollagenesis may occur and may be initiated with fibroblast proliferation, which may be promoted with vibration. Neofibrogenesis also occurs due to the fibroblastic activity, responsible for secretion of new collagen matrix to effect tissue repair. Thus, the device exploits thermally-induced collagen denaturation and repair along with simultaneous vibration to improve tissue tone, connective tissue tension and bulk tissue regeneration.

Claims (29)

1. A method for strengthening vaginal tissue comprising:

receiving an indication that a user has activated a rejuvenation and massage device that has been placed into contact with the vaginal tissue, the rejuvenation and massage device comprising an insertable section that comprises:

an opaque shell forming an external surface of the insertable section, the external surface adapted to contact the vaginal tissue, and the opaque shell comprising a transparent portion forming a treatment window, and

a component that longitudinally extends inside the insertable section;

receiving at least one setting selection to control a mechanism of the rejuvenation and massage device;

applying vibration to the vaginal tissue to provide massage to the vaginal tissue, a range of vibration based at least in part on the at least one setting selection;

determining that a sliding button on the rejuvenation and massage device has been moved to adjust positions of one or more rings of light emitters arranged on the component; and

emitting light toward the vaginal tissue by the one or more rings of light emitters, the emitted light passing through the transparent portion of the shell forming the treatment window and onto a target area of the vaginal tissue that is in contact with the transparent portion, and producing thermal loading to the vaginal tissue through the emission of light, the thermal loading applied at a level that is sufficient to induce neocollagenesis, neofibrogenesis, or neoelastogenesis in the vaginal tissue, wherein the induced neocollagenesis, neofibrogenesis, or neoelastogenesis provides an elastic property to the vaginal tissue, the level based at least in part on the at least one setting selection.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein emitting light comprises emitting light in a near-infrared light range of 600-1000 nm and in a visible light spectrum.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein applying vibration comprises applying vibration in a range of 5-10 Hz and of 1-15 kHz.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the thermal loading is adjusted based on vibration, increasing if vibration is on a lower speed and decreasing if vibration is on a higher speed.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the thermal loading decreases if a threshold of duration is passed.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the vibration is adjusted based on the thermal loading, the vibration increasing if thermal loading is on a lower temperature and decreasing if thermal loading is on a higher temperature.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the light emitted toward the vaginal tissue is emitted at a level sufficient to prevent apoptosis and cell death, stimulate fibroblast proliferation, migration and collagen synthesis, modulate inflammatory and anti-oxidant responses, and simulate angiogenesis and tissue repair in the vaginal tissue.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the component is surrounded by the treatment window.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein emitting light further comprises emitting light by the one or more rings of light emitters in a radial distribution such that the light is emitted around a circumference of the insertable section through the treatment window.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein emitting light further comprises emitting light by the one or more rings of light emitters in a shape of toroid.

11. A method of repair of vaginal tissue, the method comprising:

determining that a sliding button on an insertable device has been moved to adjust positions of one or more rings of light emitters arranged on a component that extends inside the insertable device and that is enclosed by a transparent treatment window formed in an opaque shell of the insertable device, wherein an external surface of the shell is adapted to contact the vaginal tissue;

applying thermal load to the vaginal tissue at a range of temperature by emitting light on the vaginal tissue in a range of frequencies, the light emitted by the one or more rings of light emitters and passing through the treatment window and onto the vaginal tissue; and

simultaneously applying vibration to the vaginal tissue at a range of vibration for a duration of time,

wherein the applied thermal load is sufficient to induce neocollagenesis,

neofibrogenesis, or neoelastogenesis while the vibration inducing a pleasure response in the vaginal tissue and enhancing the induced

neocollagenesis, neofibrogenesis, or neoelastogenesis, and wherein the induced neocollagenesis, neofibrogenesis, or neoelastogenesis provides an elastic property to the vaginal tissue.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the emitted light is emitted at a range of wavelengths comprising 600-1000 nm and a visible light spectrum.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the range of vibration comprises a range of 5-10 Hz and 1-15 kHz.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the component extends longitudinally inside the insertable device.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein applying thermal load by emitting light further comprises emitting light by the one or more rings of light emitters in a radial distribution.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein emitting light by the one or more rings of light emitters arranged around the component that longitudinally extends inside the insertable section further comprises emitting light from one or more rings of light emitters arranged around a pole having a diameter smaller than a diameter of the opaque shell of the insertable section.
