Topical skin formulations
A method of treating a person's skin comprising topically applying to skin a composition that includes an effective amount of a hydrolyzed algae extract that includes an exopolysaccharide from Halymenia durvillei and an effective amount of an exopolysaccharide from Vibrio alginolyticus . Topical application of the composition can decrease skin permeability, increase filaggrin production, increase skin moisture, increase occludin production, and/or decrease TNF-α production.
1. A method of treating a human or animal having skin in need of moisturization, the method comprising topically applying a composition comprising 0.001% to 1% w/w of a hydrolyzed algae extract, 0.0001% to 0.1% w/w of a saccharide isomerate, and a dermatologically acceptable vehicle to the skin of the human or animal, wherein at least one of skin permeability is decreased, filaggrin production is increased, skin moisture is increased, occludin production is increased, or TNFα production is inhibited in the human or animal, wherein the hydrolyzed algae extract comprises exopolysaccharides from Halymenia durvillei , and wherein the saccharide isomerate comprises an exopolysaccharide synthesized by Vibrio alginolyticus.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the skin permeability is decreased and wherein at least one of filaggrin production is increased, skin moisture is increased, occludin production is increased, or TNFα production is inhibited in the human or animal.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the hydrolyzed algae extract increases production of filaggrin, increases skin moisture, increases production of occludin, and/or decreases skin permeability in the human or animal.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is formulated as at least one of a moisturizer, a mask, a foundation, a freshener, or a cleanser.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dermatologically acceptable vehicle comprises water.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the composition comprises 35% to 98% w/w of water.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises glycerin and phenoxyethanol.
8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the composition comprises 1% to 15% w/w of glycerin and 0.1% to 1.5% w/w of phenoxyethanol.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the saccharide isomerate increases production of filaggrin, increases skin moisture, increases production of occludin, and/or inhibits TNFα production in the human or animal.
10. The method of claim 3 , wherein the saccharide isomerate increases production of filaggrin, increases skin moisture, increases production of occludin, and/or inhibits TNFα production in the human or animal.
11. The method of claim 1 , wherein skin permeability is decreased in the human or animal.
12. The method of claim 1 , wherein filaggrin production is increased in the human or animal.
13. The method of claim 1 , wherein skin moisture is increased in the human or animal.
14. The method of claim 1 , wherein occludin production is increased in the human or animal.
15. The method of claim 1 , wherein TNFα production is inhibited in the human or animal.
16. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least two of skin permeability is decreased, filaggrin production is increased, skin moisture is increased, occludin production is increased, or TNFα production is inhibited in the human or animal.
17. The method of claim 1 , wherein skin permeability is decreased, filaggrin production is increased, skin moisture is increased, occludin production is increased, and TNFα production is inhibited in the human or animal.
