Abstract

An apparatus comprising a platform; a plurality of trucks coupled to the platform; and a roller assembly coupled to the platform, wherein the roller assembly is configured for an omnidirectional rotation, wherein the roller assembly is configured for an elastic biasing, wherein the roller assembly is driven by a motor.

Claims (50)

1. A device comprising:

a caster assembly including:

a first wall,

a second wall opposing the first wall,

an axle spanning between the first wall and the second wall,

a roller mounted onto the axle between the first wall and the second wall,

an electric motor positioned inside the roller such that the electric motor drives the roller,

a slip ring, and

a brush spanning between the slip ring and the electric motor.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the electric motor includes a stator and a rotor, wherein the axle is coupled to the stator such that the rotor rotates the roller with respect to the stator.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly includes a brake mechanism.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the axle is structured for selective lengthening.

5. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a skateboard including a pair of wheeled trucks, wherein the caster assembly is coupled to the skateboard between the pair of wheeled trucks such that the caster assembly is able to rotate omni-directionally with respect to the skateboard about an axis generally perpendicular to the axle.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the slip ring is configured to rotate with respect to the brush about an axis generally perpendicular to the axle, wherein the slip ring is coupled to the first wall and the second wall.

7. The device of claim 6 , wherein the slip ring is configured to rotate omni-directionally about the axis.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a suitcase.

9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a travel bag.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a furniture item.

11. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a gurney.

12. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to at least one of a pallet or a skid.

13. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a cart.

14. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to an unmanned vehicle.

15. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a bed.

16. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a platform truck.

17. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a toy.

18. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a robot.

19. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a wheelchair.

20. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a chair.

21. The device of claim 1 , wherein the caster assembly is coupled to a table.

22. A device comprising:

a board; and

a caster assembly coupled to the board, wherein the caster assembly includes:

a first wall,

a second wall opposing the first wall,

an axle spanning between the first wall and the second wall,

a roller mounted onto the axle between the first wall and the second wall,

an electric motor positioned inside the roller such that the electric motor drives the roller,

a slip ring, and

a brush spanning between the slip ring and the electric motor.

23. A device comprising:

a remote control; and

a caster assembly coupled to the remote control, wherein the caster assembly includes:

a first wall,

a second wall opposing the first wall,

an axle spanning between the first wall and the second wall,

a roller mounted onto the axle between the first wall and the second wall,

an electric motor positioned inside the roller such that the electric motor drives the roller,

a slip ring, and

a brush spanning between the slip ring and the electric motor.
