Abstract

Techniques are described for polymorph rendering of objects in a collaborative platform and/or other environments, through which the same object is presented differently in the user interface depending on which perspective is being used to render the object. In some implementations, the platform supports multiple renderers and each renderer is associated with a particular perspective. Polymorph rendering may also be described as adaptive rendering, given that the presentation of an object may be adapted to the particular accessors of a work routine, and such adaptation is achieved through use of different renderers to render the object according to different perspectives. A particular renderer can be written once and added to the platform, and that renderer may be applied to a variety of objects. Tools may also be rendered according to various perspectives, given that tools also support the normalized object contract and at least expose the mandatory perspectives.

Claims (37)

1. A computer-implemented method performed by at least one processor, the method comprising:

in response to a selection of a data object through a first instance of a user interface (UI) presented on a first computing device, presenting, by the at least one processor, a first visualization of the data object in the first instance of the UI, the first visualization including a first set of data attributes of the data object, the first set of data attributes associated with a first perspective supported by the data object;

receiving, by the at least one processor, a selection of a second perspective through a second instance of the UI presented on a second computing device, the second perspective supported by the data object; and

in response to the selection of the second perspective through the second instance of the UI, dynamically altering, by the at least one processor, the first visualization to present a second visualization of the data object in both the first instance of the UI and the second instance of the UI, the second visualization including a second set of data attributes of the data object, the second set of data attributes associated with the second perspective, wherein presentation of the data object in both the first instance of the UI and the second instance of the UI is dynamically updated in response to a change that is made to data of the data object through at least one of the first instance and the second instance.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second visualization includes a different arrangement of data attributes than the first visualization.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first perspective is a default perspective of the data object.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the first visualization of the data object is generated by a first renderer associated with the first perspective; and

the second visualization of the data object is generated by a second renderer associated with the second perspective.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data object is included in a work routine (WR) that consumes the data object based on a normalized object contract.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selection of the second perspective is made through a UI element presented in the first visualization through the UI.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the UI element presents a selectable list of perspectives that are determined to be supported by the data object based on at least partly on a type of the data object.

8. A system, comprising:

at least one processor; and

a memory communicatively coupled to the at least one processor, the memory storing instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

in response to a selection of a data object through a first instance of a user interface (UI) presented on a first computing device, presenting a first visualization of the data object in the first instance of the UI, the first visualization including a first set of data attributes of the data object, the first set of data attributes associated with a first perspective supported by the data object;

receiving a selection of a second perspective through a second instance of the UI presented on a second computing device, the second perspective supported by the data object; and

in response to the selection of the second perspective through the second instance of the UI, dynamically altering the first visualization to present a second visualization of the data object in both the first instance of the UI and the second instance of the UI, the second visualization including a second set of data attributes of the data object, the second set of data attributes associated with the second perspective, wherein presentation of the data object in both the first instance of the UI and the second instance of the UI is dynamically updated in response to a change that is made to data of the data object through at least one of the first instance and the second instance.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the second visualization includes a different arrangement of data attributes than the first visualization.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the first perspective is a default perspective of the data object.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein:

the first visualization of the data object is generated by a first renderer associated with the first perspective; and

the second visualization of the data object is generated by a second renderer associated with the second perspective.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the data object is included in a work routine (WR) that consumes the data object based on a normalized object contract.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the selection of the second perspective is made through a UI element presented in the first visualization through the UI.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the UI element presents a selectable list of perspectives that are determined to be supported by the data object based on at least partly on a type of the data object.

15. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

in response to a selection of a data object through a first instance of a user interface (UI) presented on a first computing device, presenting a first visualization of the data object in the first instance of the UI, the first visualization including a first set of data attributes of the data object, the first set of data attributes associated with a first perspective supported by the data object;

receiving a selection of a second perspective through a second instance of the UI presented on a second computing device, the second perspective supported by the data object; and

in response to the selection of the second perspective through the second instance of the UI, dynamically altering the first visualization to present a second visualization of the data object in both the first instance of the UI and the second instance of the UI, the second visualization including a second set of data attributes of the data object, the second set of data attributes associated with the second perspective, wherein presentation of the data object in both the first instance of the UI and the second instance of the UI is dynamically updated in response to a change that is made to data of the data object through at least one of the first instance and the second instance.

16. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein the second visualization includes a different arrangement of data attributes than the first visualization.

17. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein the first perspective is a default perspective of the data object.

18. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein:

the first visualization of the data object is generated by a first renderer associated with the first perspective; and

the second visualization of the data object is generated by a second renderer associated with the second perspective.

19. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein the data object is included in a work routine (WR) that consumes the data object based on a normalized object contract.

20. The one or more computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein the selection of the second perspective is made through a UI element presented in the first visualization through the UI.
