Claims (17)

1. A method of treatment for improving physical or mental performance in a human using a nutritional supplement that contains caffeine, comprising:

providing the human the nutritional supplement, wherein the nutritional supplement comprises theacrine and caffeine;

wherein the nutritional supplement is provided at a dosage that provides the theacrine and the caffeine in an amount of between about 0.75 mg/kg to about 3 mg/kg;

wherein the theacrine in the nutritional supplement is present in an amount that decreases at least one effect selected from the group consisting of anxiety, irritability, jitters, and overstimulation compared to administration of caffeine alone; and

wherein upon administration of the composition the human experiences improvement of at least one effect selected from the group consisting of mood, energy, focus, concentration, cognitive function, and sexual desire, and simultaneously a reduction of at least one effect selected from the group consisting of anxiety and fatigue.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of theacrine provided is about 65 mg to about 300 mg.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the caffeine is present in the composition in the amount of about 25 mg to about 650 mg.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the weight to weight ratio of theacrine to caffeine is about 1:1.2.

5. A method of reducing an adverse effect of caffeine in a nutritional supplement for improving physical or mental performance in a human, comprising:

formulating the nutritional supplement to include caffeine in an amount that increases, upon oral administration of the nutritional supplement, at least one effect selected from the group consisting of focus, concentration, and energy;

the nutritional supplement further includes theacrine in an amount that reduces, upon oral administration of the nutritional supplement, at least one effect selected from the group consisting of anxiety, irritability, jitters, and overstimulation compared to administration of caffeine alone; and

wherein the nutritional supplement is formulated for oral administration that provides a dosage of theacrine and caffeine in an amount of between about 0.75 mg/kg to about 3 mg/kg.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the nutritional supplement is formulated as a ready to mix powder, a capsule, a tablet, a liquid, or a softgel.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the nutritional supplement further reduces fatigue and/or increases alertness.

8. The method of claim 5 , wherein the caffeine is in a dosage of about 25 mg to about 650 mg.

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein the theacrine is in a dosage of about 5 mg to about 800 mg.

10. The method of claim 5 , wherein the adverse effect is habituation to caffeine.
