Abstract

Provided are a method for steering traffic performed by a terminal in a wireless communication system, and the terminal using the method. The method comprises: receiving a traffic steering indicator from a first network; evaluating a traffic steering condition; and if the traffic steering condition is satisfied, operating in a first operation mode or a second operation mode indicated by the traffic steering indicator, wherein the first operation mode is an operation mode in which the terminal is capable of performing, by itself, traffic steering for moving traffic from the first network to a second network, and the second operation mode is an operation mode for reporting the evaluation result of the traffic steering condition to the first network.

Claims (37)

1. A method for performing traffic steering in a wireless communication system, the method performed by a user equipment (UE) and comprising:

receiving, from a first network, parameter information related to the traffic steering;

performing the traffic steering based on whether the parameter information includes traffic steering information or not,

wherein the traffic steering is operation for moving traffic from the first network to a second network,

wherein an operation mode of the traffic steering is one of a first operation mode and a second operation mode,

wherein the traffic steering information is information for whether the UE performs the traffic steering based on the first operation mode or performs the traffic steering based on the second operation mode, and

wherein, in the first operation mode, the UE performs, by itself, the traffic steering for moving the traffic from the first network to the second network without an instruction of the first network,

wherein, in the second operation mode, the UE performs the traffic steering based on the instruction of the first network, and

wherein if the UE receives the parameter information in a radio resource control (RRC) idle state and the parameter information does not include the traffic steering information, the UE performs the traffic steering based on the first operation mode in the RRC idle mode.

The method of claim 1 , wherein, when the UE performs the traffic steering based on the second operation mode, the UE reports a result of the evaluation for the traffic steering condition to the first network and the UE receives a traffic steering command from the first network in response to reporting the result.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein, when the UE performs traffic steering based on the second operation mode, the UE performs traffic steering for moving the traffic to the second network by receiving the traffic steering command from the first network.

4. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the UE further receives traffic routing information, and

wherein the traffic routing information is information related to an object for which the traffic steering to the second network is allowed.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the traffic routing information further comprises a threshold value applicable to evaluation of the traffic steering condition.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving information including a candidate list of the second network.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising detecting a network corresponding to the candidate list.

8. A user equipment (UE) operating in a wireless communication system, the UE comprising:

a radio frequency (RF) transceiver configured to transmit and receive a radio signal; and

a processor functionally connected to the RF unit to operate, and

wherein the processor:

controls the RF transceiver to receive, from a first network, parameter information related to traffic steering; and

performs the traffic steering based on whether the parameter information includes traffic steering information or not,

wherein the traffic steering is operation for moving traffic from the first network to a second network,

wherein an operation mode of the traffic steering is one of a first operation mode and a second operation mode,

wherein the traffic steering information is information for whether the UE performs the traffic steering based on the first operation mode or performs the traffic steering based on the second operation mode,

wherein, in the first operation mode, the UE performs, by itself, the traffic steering for moving the traffic from the first network to the second network without an instruction of the first network,

wherein, in the second operation mode, the UE performs the traffic steering based on the instruction of the first network, and

wherein if the UE receives the parameter information in a radio resource control (RRC) idle state and the parameter information does not include the traffic steering information, the UE performs the traffic steering based on the first operation mode in the RRC idle mode.

The UE of claim 8 , wherein, when the UE performs the traffic steering based on the second operation mode, the UE reports a result of the evaluation for the traffic steering condition to the first network and the UE receives a traffic steering command from the first network in response to reporting the result.

10. The UE of claim 9 , wherein, when the UE performs traffic steering based on the second operation mode, the UE performs traffic steering for moving the traffic to the second network by receiving the traffic steering command from the first network.

11. The UE of claim 8 ,

wherein the UE further receives traffic routing information, and

wherein the traffic routing information is information related to an object for which the traffic steering to the second network is allowed.

12. The UE of claim 11 , wherein the traffic routing information further comprises a threshold value applicable to evaluation of the traffic steering condition.

13. The UE of claim 8 , wherein the processor is configured to receive information including a candidate list of the second network.

14. The UE of claim 13 , wherein the processor is configured to detect a network corresponding to the candidate list.
