Visually enhanced tab file system
A tab system for a folder ( 10 a ), and a method of making same is disclosed. The tab is enlarged to carry more information/indicia. The visual indicia space ( 16 a ), i.e. the viewable space on the front ( 32 a, 36 a ) of the folder which allows viewing of the enlarged tab is achieve without violating the overall size restrictions ( 40 a ) of the file folder. Instead, the front of the folder adjacent to the tab on the back panel, is cut away ( 32 a, 34 a ) to expose a greater portion of the back panel ( 14 a ) and allow an increase in visual indicia space. The remaining portion of the front panel, not adjacent to the tab may also be cut away ( 34 a ) to allow other enlarged tab files, with offset tabs, ( 22 d, 21 a ) to be viewable behind the present file.
1. A standard height file folder of predetermined folder height, with a writable tab having increased visible writable and viewable area when stacked with other like file folders comprising:
a) a solely single ply back panel surface having a longitudinal top edge and spaced apart side edges, and including a back panel tab extending upwardly from said top edge a predetermined portion of the back panel;
b) a front panel surface overlying the back panel, said front panel being of the same predetermined height as said back panel and having a top edge of equal height to the top edge of the back panel except at a cut out portion of said top edge of said front panel, said cut out portion being aligned with said back panel tab, thereby forming a front panel cut out and being generally as wide and as deep below the front panel top edge as said back panel tab extends upwardly from the back panel top edge thereby creating an unoccluded tab in the back panel which is generally half formed by the distance between said back panel top edge and a top end of the top, generally half formed by a cut out distance between the top edge of the front panel and a bottom end of the cut out portion;
thereby providing an enlarged visible writing surface of said tab, without increasing its height.
2. A solely single ply file folder, with a writable back tab having increased writable and viewable area when stacked with other like file folders comprising:
a) a back panel surface having a longitudinal top edge and spaced apart side edges, and including a back panel tab extending upwardly, a back panel tab extending upwardly from said top edge a predetermined distance from the back panel top edge;
b) a front panel surface having a top edge aligned and configured to completely overlay the top edge of said back panel except in the area of the back panel tab, said front panel surface having a cut out portion in said top edge adjacent said back panel tab, said cut out portion extending laterally thereby forming a recess in said front panel top edge, said recess being at least as deep below said top edge, as said predetermined distance;
so that said back tab has a portion of its writable surface visible through the cut out portion of said front panel; and
so that generally half of the visible portion of the tab is below the top edge of the front panel and half is above said top edge of the front panel.
3. The file folder of claim 2 wherein the height of the cut out portion in the front panel is substantially equal to the height of the tab in the back panel thereby doubling effective the viewable height.
4. A standard height file folder, with a writable tab having increased visible writable and viewable area when stacked with other like file folders comprising:
a) a back panel surface having a longitudinal top edge and spaced apart side edges, and including a solely single ply tab extending upwardly from one of said side edges,
b) a front panel surface having a top edge aligned and configured to completely overlay the top edge of said back panel except in the area of the back panel tab, said front panel having a cut out portion adjacent said tab commencing at one of said side edged and extending laterally toward but not up to said other side edge, and thereby forming a top cut out edge and being generally as wide as said tab so that said tab has a portion of its writable surface visible through the cut out portion of said front panel;
c) said top edge of said back panel, except in the area of the tab, being lower than the tab and not being substantially higher than said top cut edge of front panel,
d) said top edge of said front panel, adjacent said tab being substantially equal in depth to the height said back panel tab extends upwardly above the front panel top edge; so that generally half of the visible portion of the tab is below the top edge of the front panel, thereby providing an enhanced visible writing surface of said tab.
