Payment cards and devices with displays, chips, RFIDs, magnetic emulators, magentic decoders, and other components
A payment card (e.g., credit and/or debit card) or other card or device (e.g., mobile telephone) is provided with a magnetic emulator operable to communicate data to a magnetic stripe read-head. User interfaces are provided in a number of different configurations in order to achieve a number of different functionalities.
1. A device comprising:
a display;
a battery;
a processor;
a biometric unlocking system operable to unlock a payment card;
a wireless power harvesting system operable to power said battery; and
a communications device operable to communicate magnetic stripe data to a read-head of a magnetic stripe reader while located outside said magnetic stripe reader.
2. The device of claim 1 , wherein said communications device is an RFID.
3. The device of claim 1 , wherein said communications device is a magnetic emulator.
4. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a button.
5. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of buttons.
6. The device of claim 1 , wherein said display is a non-bi-stable display.
7. The device of claim 1 , wherein said display is a bi-stable display.
8. The device of claim 1 , wherein payment data is provided by said communications device and at least a portion of said payment data is displayed on said display.
9. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a memory.
10. The device of claim 1 , further comprising an LED.
11. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:
a first button;
a second button;
a first source of light; and
a second source of light.
12. The device of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of a payment card number is displayed on said display.
13. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a button and a source of light.
14. The device of claim 1 , wherein said wireless power harvesting system includes an antenna.
15. The device of claim 1 , wherein said biometric unlocking system includes a fingerprint reader.
16. The device of claim 1 , wherein said biometric unlocking system includes a retina scanner.
17. The device of claim 1 , wherein said biometric unlocking system includes a scanner.
18. The device of claim 1 , wherein said communications device is operable to communicate to said read-head while located at least a quarter of an inch outside of said magnetic stripe reader.
19. The device of claim 1 , wherein said device is thicker than a payment card.
20. The device of claim further comprising a telecommunications system.
21. The device of claim 1 , wherein said payment card is a credit card.
22. The device of claim 1 , wherein said payment card is a debit card.
23. The device of claim 1 , wherein said payment card is a gift card.
24. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a second payment card.
25. The device of claim 1 , wherein said magnetic stripe data includes a payment card number and a verification code.
26. The device of claim 1 , wherein said magnetic stripe data includes a payment card number and a dynamic verification code.
27. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:
a telecommunications system,
wherein said magnetic stripe data includes a payment card number and a verification code.
28. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a telecommunications system, wherein said magnetic stripe data includes a payment card number and a dynamic verification code.
29. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:
a telecommunications system,
wherein said wireless power harvesting system includes an antenna.
30. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:
a telecommunications system,
wherein said wireless power harvesting system includes an antenna and said biometric unlocking system includes a scanning system.
31. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:
a telecommunications system,
wherein said wireless power harvesting system includes an antenna and said biometric unlocking system includes fingerprint reader.
32. The device of claim 1 , wherein said magnetic stripe data includes two tracks of data communicated serially.
