Abstract

Apparel patterns may be generated as a function of custom apparel information provided by a user, such as one or more measurements, colors, etc., such that the user can have apparel custom-knitted to their particular size and shape without having to acquiesce the high expense and long wait times typically associated with custom-fit clothing. After a custom apparel pattern is generated, a custom-knitted article can be manufactured based on the pattern by transmitting appropriate information to a knitting machine. Data produced while generating custom apparel patterns can be stored and used to optimize and improve the manufacturing of customized knitwear for subsequent users. Further, such data can be shared with third parties such that manufacturers or others can utilize one or more beneficial aspects of the present disclosure without having to implement all of the functionality that would otherwise be required to obtain such benefits.

receiving first custom apparel information from a user;

generating first knitting information as a function of the first custom apparel information;

generating a first custom apparel pattern as a function of the first custom apparel information and the first knitting information;

storing the first custom apparel pattern in a custom apparel pattern database; and

transmitting one or more of the first custom apparel pattern, information associated with the first custom apparel pattern, and information derived from the first custom apparel pattern to a knitting machine to cause the knitting machine to make an article of clothing.

2. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the first custom apparel information includes color information and said generating first knitting information includes use of the color information.

3. A method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of final gauge, fiber type, garment shrink, stitch type, and yarn shrink factors are used in said generating first knitting information.

4. A method according to claim 1 , wherein said first knitting information comprises at least one of final gauge, fiber type, garment shrink, stitch type, and yarn shrink factors.

5. A method according to claim 1 , further comprising transmitting at least a portion of the custom apparel pattern database to a third party.

6. A method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving second custom apparel information from a user;

generating second knitting information as a function of the second custom apparel information;

generating a second custom apparel pattern as a function of the second custom apparel information, the second knitting information, and at least a portion of the custom apparel pattern database; and

storing the second custom apparel pattern in the custom apparel pattern database.

7. A method according to claim 6 , wherein the second custom apparel information includes color information and said generating second knitting information includes generating at least one of a final gauge, a fiber type, a garment shrink, a stitch type, and a yarn shrink factor as a function of the color information.

8. A method according to claim 6 , further comprising transmitting one or more of the second custom apparel pattern, information associated with the second custom apparel pattern, and information derived from the second custom apparel pattern to a knitting machine.

9. A method according to claim 6 , wherein said generating a second custom apparel pattern includes generating the second custom apparel pattern as a function of at least a portion of the custom apparel pattern database using at least one machine learning algorithm.

10. A method according to claim 6 , wherein said generating a second custom apparel pattern includes generating the second custom apparel pattern as a function of at least a portion of the custom apparel pattern database using at least one regression analysis algorithm.

11. A method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

generating a first initial apparel pattern as a function of the first custom apparel information; and

storing the first initial apparel pattern in an initial apparel pattern database,

wherein said generating a first custom apparel pattern includes generating the first custom apparel pattern as a function of the first initial apparel pattern.

12. A method of generating a custom apparel pattern, the method performed by a custom-knitting system and comprising:

receiving first custom apparel information from a user;

generating first knitting information as a function of the first custom apparel information;

generating a first custom apparel pattern as a function of the first custom apparel information and the first knitting information;

storing the first custom apparel pattern in a custom apparel pattern database;

generating a first initial apparel pattern as a function of the first custom apparel information;

storing the first initial apparel pattern in an initial apparel pattern database, wherein said generating a first custom apparel pattern includes generating the first custom apparel pattern as a function of the first initial apparel

receiving second custom apparel information from a user;

generating a second initial apparel pattern as a function of the second custom apparel information and at least a portion of the initial apparel pattern database;

storing the second initial apparel pattern in the initial apparel pattern database;

generating second knitting information as a function of the second initial apparel pattern;

generating a second custom apparel pattern as a function of the second custom apparel information, the second knitting information, the second initial apparel pattern, and at least a portion of the custom apparel pattern database; and

storing the second custom apparel pattern in the custom apparel pattern database.

13. A method according to claim 12 , wherein at least one of final gauge, fiber type, garment shrink, stitch type, and yarn shrink factors are used in said generating second knitting information.

14. A method according to claim 12 , wherein said second knitting information comprises at least one of final gauge, fiber type, garment shrink, stitch type, and yarn shrink factors.

15. A method according to claim 12 , wherein the second custom apparel information includes color information and said generating second knitting information includes generating at least one of final gauge, fiber type, garment shrink, stitch type, and yarn shrink factors as a function of the color information.

16. A method according to claim 12 , further comprising transmitting the second custom apparel pattern, information associated with the second custom apparel pattern, or information derived from the second custom apparel pattern to a knitting machine.

17. A method according to claim 12 , wherein said generating a second initial apparel pattern includes generating the second initial apparel pattern as a function of at least a portion of the initial apparel pattern database using at least one machine learning algorithm.

18. A method according to claim 12 , wherein said generating a second initial apparel pattern includes generating the second initial apparel pattern as a function of at least a portion of the initial apparel pattern database using at least one regression analysis algorithm.

19. A method according to claim 12 , wherein said generating a second custom apparel pattern includes generating the second custom apparel pattern as a function of at least a portion of the custom apparel pattern database using at least one machine learning algorithm.
