Abstract

Computer apparatus for generating a graphical user interface on a display screen. The graphical user interface has a first command interface area for inputting and displaying cryptic commands for the definition of a search request, and a form-based second command interface area having fields for displaying parameters of the search request. The computer apparatus further includes an area for coupling the first and the second command interface areas such that the input of cryptic commands with the first command interface area generates a pseudo-simultaneous display of parameters reflecting at least some of the cryptic commands. The coupling means may include means for parsing the cryptic commands, program instructions for extracting structured data from the cryptic commands, means for storing the structured data within JavaScript objects, and program instructions for filling fields of the second command interface area by mapping the structured data.

Claims (14)

1. A method for managing a search request comprised of a plurality of request parameters, the method comprising:

displaying, on a display at a computer, a first command interface area including an input text box;

displaying, on the display at the computer, a second command interface area including a form-based graphical input area;

receiving, at the computer, into the input text box a text string of cryptic commands in a first code type compatible with a first search request format of a first remote search engine and representing the request parameters of the search request;

parsing, at the computer, the received cryptic commands in the first code type;

extracting, at the computer, structured data from the parsed cryptic commands;

storing, at the computer, the structured data within JavaScript objects;

coupling, at the computer, the first command interface area and the second command interface area to generate a pseudo-simultaneous display of the received cryptic commands of first code type and at least some of the request parameters in the form-based graphical-input area;

mapping, at the computer, the structured data from the JavaScript objects to cryptic commands in a second code type compatible with a second search request format of a second remote search engine and at least partially different from the received cryptic commands of first code type;

displaying the cryptic commands of the second code type on the display at the computer;

sending the search request as the cryptic commands of the second code type to the second remote search engine, wherein the second remote search engine is part of a computerized travel reservation system; and

in response to sending the search request as the cryptic commands of the second code type to the remote search engine, receiving a list of results from the remote search engine at the computer.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising

displaying the list of results received on the display at the computer.
