Abstract

Agencies issue recording devices to personnel for administrating and monitoring controlled calls during the course of their duties. To provide flexible capabilities to agencies, a virtual number is provisioned and configured to enable an operator to administrate controlled calls without dedicated recording devices. Using the virtual number, the operator may setup a controlled call between a victim and a baddie. The victim is contacted via the virtual number by the operator and optionally informed about the controlled call process. In turn, the baddie is contacted using number information of the victim's phone and connected with the victim. Call audio between the victim and baddie is transmitted to the operator. When necessary, the operator may terminate the call remotely from the telephonic device the operator used to setup the call.

Claims (34)

1. A computer based method comprising:

identifying an operator device requesting to administrate a controlled call between a first contact device and a second contact device;

receiving, from the operator device, a first transmitting number corresponding to a first contact device, a second transmitting number corresponding to a second contact device, and instructions to provide, to the second contact device, when initiating the controlled call on behalf of the operator device, spoofed number information corresponding to the first contact device;

requesting a first connection to the first contact device through a virtual number based on the first transmitting number; and

requesting a second connection to the second contact device through the virtual number based on the second transmitting number, the second connection request having the spoofed number information corresponding to the first contact device;

wherein establishment of the first connection and the second connection enables controlled audio communications between the first contact device and the second contact device and disables audio communications from the operator device to the first contact device and the second contact device, the operator device receiving the audio communications between the first contact device and the second contact device and controlling the audio communications.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the controlled call is established through the virtual number and enables the operator device to monitor and control the audio communications.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying an operator device requesting to administrate a controlled call comprises:

receiving authentication information from a target telephonic device; and

authenticating the target telephonic device as the operator device based on agreement of authentication information received from the target telephonic device and authentication data stored in association with the virtual number in a mapping table.

The method of claim 3 , wherein the authentication information received from the target telephonic device is a transmitting number of the operator device, the transmitting number of the operator device included in number information corresponding to a connection request to the virtual number from the operator device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first transmitting number and the second transmitting number are received from the operator device through the virtual number.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein establishment of the first connection to the first contact device enables audio communications between the operator device and the first contact device prior to the audio communications between the first contact device and the second contact device.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the first connection request has number information corresponding to the virtual number to prevent transmission of number information corresponding to the operator device to the first contact device.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second connection to the second contact device is requested responsive to a command received from the operator device to begin the controlled call.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein spoofing the number information corresponding to the first contact device in the request of the second connection to the second contact device through the virtual number configures the second connection request to appear as if it originated from the first contact device to prevent alerting a user of the second contact device to receipt and control of the audio communications by the operator device.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the operator device controlling the audio communications terminates the audio communications with a command.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing computer program code for administration of controlled calls, the computer program code when executed by a processor performing steps comprising:

identifying an operator device requesting to administrate a controlled call between a first contact device and a second contact device;

receiving, from the operator device, a first transmitting number corresponding to a first contact device, a second transmitting number corresponding to a second contact device, and instructions to provide, to the second contact device, when initiating the controlled call on behalf of the operator device, spoofed number information corresponding to the first contact device;

requesting a first connection to the first contact device through a virtual number based on the first transmitting number; and

requesting a second connection to the second contact device through the virtual number based on the second transmitting number, the second connection request having the spoofed number information corresponding to the first contact device;

wherein establishment of the first connection and the second connection enables controlled audio communications between the first contact device and the second contact device and disables audio communications from the operator device to the first contact device and the second contact device, the operator device receiving the audio communications between the first contact device and the second contact device and controlling the audio communications.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the controlled call is established through the virtual number and enables the operator device to monitor and control the audio communications.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein identifying an operator device requesting to administrate a controlled call comprises:

receiving authentication information from a target telephonic device; and

authenticating the target telephonic device as the operator device based on agreement of authentication information received from the target telephonic device and authentication data stored in association with the virtual number in a mapping table.

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the authentication information received from the target telephonic device is a transmitting number of the operator device, the transmitting number of the operator device included in number information corresponding to a connection request to the virtual number from the operator device.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the first transmitting number and the second transmitting number are received from the operator device through the virtual number.

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein establishment of the first connection to the first contact device enables audio communications between the operator device and the first contact device prior to the controlled audio communications between the first contact device and the second contact device.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the first connection request has number information corresponding to the virtual number to prevent transmission of number information corresponding to the operator device to the first contact device.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the second connection to the second contact device is requested responsive to a command received from the operator device to begin the controlled call.

The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein spoofing the number information corresponding to the first contact device in the request of the second connection to the second contact device through the virtual number configures the second connection request to appear as if it originated from the first contact device to prevent alerting a user of the second contact device to receipt and control of the audio communications by the operator device.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the operator device controlling the audio communications terminates the audio communications with a command.
