Abstract

Computing device(s) are configured for managing the reunification of students with parents during an emergency or a drill for a simulated emergency. The reunification of students with guardians may be managed through the operations of various user interfaces (UIs) presented on the device(s). Different UIs may be configured to support different personnel performing different roles in the reunification process. The UIs may include one or more of a student supervisor UI, a location supervisor UI, a runner UI, a guardian greeter UI, a reunification officer UI, or an incident commander UI. The various UIs enable different personnel to track the location and status of individuals, such as students and guardians, during various stages of a reunification process, enable personnel to dynamically update a centralized database with current information regarding the location and status of individuals, and view real time information regarding the location and status of individuals.

Claims (58)

1. A system for managing reunification of students and guardians, the system comprising:

at least one data store comprising student records; and

a computing device in communication with the at least one data store, the computing device configured to perform operations comprising:

presenting, in a reunification officer user interface (UI) executing on the computing device, at least a portion of a reunification queue including one or more items that each includes a name of a student described in the student records, a name of a guardian of the student, a relationship between the guardian and the student, a current location of the student, and a current status for reunification of the student with the guardian;

responsive to detecting a selection of an item from the reunification queue in the reunification officer UI, presenting at least one reunification screen in the reunification officer UI, wherein the at least one reunification screen indicates the name of the student corresponding to the selected item, the name of the guardian of the student, and an indication that the identity of the guardian has been verified;

responsive to receiving an indication, through the reunification screen, to initiate the reunification of the student with the guardian, sending a communication to cause a reunification status of the selected item from the reunification queue to be altered to indicate initiation of the reunification of the student with the guardian;

receiving, through the reunification officer UI, confirmation data that confirms the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred; and

responsive to receiving the confirmation data:

altering the presentation of the at least a portion of the reunification queue to indicate that the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred; and

modifying the student records to indicate that the student has been reunified with guardian.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the item, including the student, is added to the reunification queue based on another communication that is sent in response to an input to a guardian greeter UI executing on another computing device.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein receiving, through the reunification officer UI, confirmation data that confirms the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred comprises receiving a signature of the guardian provided through the reunification screen.

4. The system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising:

responsive to receiving the confirmation data through the reunification officer UI, removing a reunification request corresponding to the student from the reunification queue.

5. The system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising:

sending a notification to at least one other guardian of the student, responsive to receiving the confirmation data.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the current status for reunification of the student with the guardian indicates one or more of:

the student is being escorted to a reunification area by an assigned runner;

a reunification request has been initiated and a runner is not yet assigned; and

the student has been handed off to a reunification officer for reunification with the guardian.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein receiving, through the reunification officer UI, confirmation data that confirms the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred comprises capturing an image of the reunified student and the guardian.

8. A computer-implemented method for managing reunification of students and guardians, the method performed by at least one processor and comprising:

presenting, by the at least one processor, in a reunification officer user interface (UI) executing on a computing device, at least a portion of a reunification queue including one or more items that each includes a name of a student described in student records stored on a data store, a name of a guardian of the student, a relationship between the guardian and the student, a current location of the student, and a current status for reunification of the student with the guardian;

responsive to detecting a selection of an item from the reunification queue in the reunification officer UI, presenting, by the at least one processor, at least one reunification screen in the reunification officer UI, wherein the at least one reunification screen indicates the name of the student corresponding to the selected item, the name of the guardian of the student, and an indication that the identity of the guardian has been verified;

responsive to receiving an indication, through the reunification screen, to initiate the reunification of the student with the guardian, sending, by the at least one processor, a communication to cause a reunification status of the selected item from the reunification queue to be altered to indicate initiation of the reunification of the student with the guardian;

receiving, through the reunification officer UI, confirmation data that confirms the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred; and

responsive to receiving the confirmation data:

altering the presentation of the at least a portion of the reunification queue to indicate that the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred; and

modifying the student records to indicate that the student has been reunified with guardian.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the item, including the student, is added to the reunification queue based on another communication that is sent in response to an input to a guardian greeter UI executing on another computing device.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein receiving, through the reunification officer UI, confirmation data that confirms the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred comprises receiving a signature of the guardian provided through the reunification screen.

11. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

responsive to receiving the confirmation data through the reunification officer UI, removing, by the at least one processor, a reunification request corresponding to the student from the reunification queue.

12. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

sending, by the at least one processor, a notification to at least one other guardian of the student, responsive to receiving the confirmation data.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the current status for reunification of the student with the guardian indicates one or more of:

the student is being escorted to a reunification area by an assigned runner;

a reunification request has been initiated and a runner is not yet assigned; and

the student has been handed off to a reunification officer for reunification with the guardian.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein receiving, through the reunification officer UI, confirmation data that confirms the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred comprises capturing an image of the reunified student and the guardian.

15. One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media storing instructions which, when executed, cause at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

presenting, in a reunification officer user interface (UI) executing on a computing device, at least a portion of a reunification queue including one or more items that each includes a name of a student described in student records stored on a data store, a name of a guardian of the student, a relationship between the guardian and the student, a current location of the student, and a current status for reunification of the student with the guardian;

responsive to detecting a selection of an item from the reunification queue in the reunification officer UI, presenting at least one reunification screen in the reunification officer UI, wherein the at least one reunification screen indicates the name of the student corresponding to the selected item, the name of the guardian of the student, and an indication that the identity of the guardian has been verified;

responsive to receiving an indication, through the reunification screen, to initiate the reunification of the student with the guardian, sending a communication to cause a reunification status of the selected item from the reunification queue to be altered to indicate initiation of the reunification of the student with the guardian;

receiving, through the reunification officer UI, confirmation data that confirms the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred; and

responsive to receiving the confirmation data:

altering the presentation of the at least a portion of the reunification queue to indicate that the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred; and

modifying the student records to indicate that the student has been reunified with guardian.

16. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 15 , wherein the item, including the student, is added to the reunification queue based on another communication that is sent in response to an input to a guardian greeter UI executing on another computing device.

17. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 15 , wherein receiving, through the reunification officer UI, confirmation data that confirms the reunification of the student and the guardian has occurred comprises receiving a signature of the guardian provided through the reunification screen.

18. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of claim 15 , the operations further comprising:

responsive to receiving the confirmation data through the reunification officer UI, removing a reunification request corresponding to the student from the reunification queue.
