A method of reducing cellular proliferation of breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, or neuroblastoma cancer cells that express a cancer specific isoform of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (caPCNA) in a patient in need thereof, comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. A method for reducing cellular proliferation of breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, or neuroblastoma cancer cells that express a cancer specific isoform of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (caPCNA) comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

3. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of the formula

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and further comprising one or more carriers, diluents, or excipients.
