Abstract

Systems and methods for managing third party content are described. In one embodiment, the method includes storing information for a plurality of third party content elements that were selected by a user for display with a page of content, in response to a user request corresponding to a page associated with one of the plurality of third party content elements specified by the stored information, rendering for display on the page a third party content module associated with the third party content element, and, in response to a user modification of the third party content module, storing information corresponding to the user modification. The modified content module is rendered for display on a page of content according to the stored information. The user has the ability to customize and control the parameters of content modules selected by the user to be rendered on the accessed page.

Claims (49)

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving a request from a first client device for third party content;

providing the third party content to the first client device display on a first page;

determining a first interaction with a first content component of the third party content

by receiving a notification from the first client device identifying the first content component;

receiving a request from a second client device for the third party content;

providing the third party content to the second client device for display on a second page; and

causing the second page to include a second content component indicating the first interaction with the first content component and that the first client device and second client device are displaying the third party content concurrently.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein determining the interaction with the first content component of the third party content further comprises:

providing a listener configured to register interactions with the first page; and

receiving from the listener an indication of the interaction with the first content component.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein causing the second page to include a second content component indicating the first interaction on the first content component further comprises:

sending the notification to a polling component associated with the second page.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 3 , wherein the polling component matches the first content component to the second content component and causes the second content component to be rendered based on the notification to indicate the interaction.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , wherein the first content component and the second content component are each Document Object Model (DOM) elements.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the interaction includes one of clicking, highlighting, or marking.

7. A computer system, comprising:

a processor; and

a memory having executable instructions that, when executed on the processor, cause the processor to:

receive a request from a first client device for third party content;

provide the third party content to the first client device for display on a first page;

determine an interaction with a first content component of the third party content

by receiving a notification from the first client device identifying the first content component;

receive a request from a second client device for the third party content;

provide the third party content to the second client device for display on a second page; and

cause the second page to include a second content component indicating the first interaction with the first content component and that the first client device and the second client device are displaying the third party content concurrently.

8. The computer system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions to determine the interaction with the first content component of the third party content, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to:

provide a listener configured to register interactions with the first page; and

receive from the listener an indication of the interaction with the first content component.

9. The computer system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions to cause the second page to include second content component indicating the first interaction with the first content component, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to:

send the notification to a polling component associated with the second page.

10. The computer system of claim 9 , wherein the polling component matches the first content component to the second content component and causes the second content component to be rendered based on the notification to indicate the interaction.

11. The computer system of claim 10 , wherein the first content component and the second content component are each Document Object Model (DOM) elements.

12. The computer system of claim 7 , wherein the interaction includes one of one of clicking, highlighting, or marking.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having computer-executable instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to:

receive a request from a first client device for third party content;

providing the third party content to the first client device for display on a first page;

determine an interaction with a first content component of the third party content

by receiving a notification from the first client device identifying the first content component;

receive a request from a second client device for the third party content;

provide the third party content to the second client device for display on a second page; and

cause the second page to include a second content component indicating the first interaction with the first content component and that the first client device and the second client device are displaying the third party content concurrently.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the instructions to determine an interaction with the first content component of the third party content, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to:

provide a listener configured to register interactions with the first page; and

receive from the listener an indication of the interaction with the first content component.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the instructions to cause the second page to include the second content component indicating the first interaction with the first content component, when executed by the processor, further cause the processor to:

send the notification to a polling component associated with the second page accessible, wherein the polling component matches the first content component to the second content component and causes the second content component to be rendered based on the notification to indicate the interaction.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the first content component and the second content component are each Document Object Model (DOM) elements.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the interaction includes one of clicking, highlighting, or marking.
