Abstract

The glass panel unit includes a first glass panel, a second glass panel, a seal, an evacuated space, and a spacer. The second glass panel is placed opposite the first glass panel. The seal with a frame shape hermetically bonds the first glass panel and the second glass panel to each other. The evacuated space is enclosed by the first glass panel, the second glass panel, and the seal. The spacer is placed between the first glass panel and the second glass panel. The spacer contains polyimide represented by chemical formula (1):

Claims (24)

1. A glass panel unit comprising:

a first glass panel;

a second glass panel placed opposite the first glass panel;

a seal with a frame shape hermetically bonding the first glass panel and the second glass panel to each other;

an evacuated space enclosed by the first glass panel, the second glass panel, and the seal; and

at least one spacer placed between the first glass panel and the second glass panel,

the at least one spacer containing polyimide represented by following chemical formula (1) and being made of at least one polyimide film:

wherein in the chemical formula (1) R1 represents an organic group containing at least one aromatic ring, R2 represents an organic group containing at least one aromatic ring, and n represents an integer equal to or larger than one.

2. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein

the organic group represented by R2 in the chemical formula (1) includes a diphenylether structure.

3. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein

the polyimide represented by the chemical formula (1) includes polyimide represented by chemical formula (2):

wherein in the chemical formula (2) R3 represents an organic group containing at least one aromatic ring and n represents an integer equal to or larger than one.

4. The glass panel unit of claim 3 , wherein

the organic group represented by R3 in the chemical formula (2) includes a diphenylether structure.

5. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein

the polyimide represented by the chemical formula (1) includes polyimide represented by chemical formula (3):

wherein in the chemical formula (3) R4 represents an organic group containing at least one aromatic ring and n represents an integer equal to or larger than one.

6. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein

the seal includes low-melting-point glass.

7. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein

the evacuated space is filled with a vacuum atmosphere created by evacuation with heating at a temperature equal to or lower than 350° C.

8. The glass panel unit of claim 1 , wherein

neither the first glass panel nor the second glass panel includes an outlet.
