Abstract

A battery pack and charger system includes a first battery pack having a first set of battery cells and configured to provide only a first operating voltage and a second battery pack having a second set of battery cells and configured to provide the first operating voltage and a second operating voltage that is different from the first operating voltage and a battery pack charger configured to be able to charge the first battery pack and the second battery pack.

Claims (9)

1. A battery pack and charger system, comprising:

a first battery pack comprising a first plurality of battery cells, a first set of power terminals, and configured to provide only a first operating voltage and be charged at a first charging voltage through the first set of power terminals;

a second battery pack comprising a second plurality of battery cells, a second set of power terminals, and configured to (A) provide the first operating voltage and a second operating voltage that is different from the first operating voltage and (B) be charged at the first charging voltage through the second set of power terminals; and

a battery pack charger comprising a third set of power terminals consisting of two terminals and configured to charge (A) the first battery pack by connecting the third set of power terminals to the first set of power terminals and (B) the second battery pack by connecting the third set of power terminals to the second set of power terminals.

2. The battery pack and charger system, as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first operating voltage is approximately 18 to 20 volts and the second operating voltage is approximately 54 to 60 volts.

3. The battery pack and charger system, as recited in claim 1 , wherein the first operating voltage is approximately 18 to 20 volts and the second operating voltage is approximately 36 to 40 volts.

4. The battery pack and charger system, as recited in claim 1 , wherein the battery pack charger is configured to charge the first battery pack and the second battery pack at the first operating voltage.

5. The battery pack and charger system, as recited in claim 1 , wherein the second operating voltage is a whole number multiple of the first operating voltage.

6. The battery pack and charger system, as recited in claim 1 , wherein the second battery pack includes a plurality of sets of battery cells wherein each set of battery cells includes at least two battery cells.
